E-GO! Issue 6 January 2016
“Beyond” is a platform where, we from Rotaract Club of Bangalore E-City wished to interact and
understand the pursuit of Rotaractors worldwide. Today when the world is plagued with crisis, corruption
and chaos, our work as Rotaractors is vital. The projects brought together in this issue of E-GO are just a
sneak peek into the countless projects that happen across the world. We connected with 11 clubs from
different parts of the world; Philippines, Ethiopia, Mongolia, France, Nepal, Cyprus, Lebanon, Honduras,
United Kingdom, Singapore and Brazil. These projects serve as an example of how Rotaractors have gone
beyond themselves, beyond their homes, beyond their communities and above all, beyond borders.
Rotaract Club of Bangalore E-city of district 3190 was chartered in August 2013,
sponsored by Rotary E-Club of Bangalore. We started off as a bunch of energetic
individuals with the zeal to serve the community along with self development. Two
years gone by, our enthusiasm has only augmented. Innovation and excellence have
been our axiom to which we adhere and which has served us well.
“Beyond” is a unique project where we are trying to showcase the Rotaraction
happening all around the world. Our objective through this project was to create a
common platform, not only to present projects from across the world but also to
understand and appreciate the work that Rotaractors are doing to build a better
tomorrow. We from Rotaract Club of Bangalore E-City are grateful for the positive
response received for this project from various parts of the globe. It has surely left us
humbled and inspired to do more and better as we go ahead.
President’s Message
Rtr. Shreyas GS
President 2015-16
“Beyond” started off as an idea to spread awareness of
the issues around the world and to give a glimpse of how
people try to face them in their own unique way. My
journey in the making of "beyond" was phenomenal as I
got to connect with clubs and people from around the
world and to try and understand the issues that they face
in their communities. It showed me that inspite of
cultural, economic or social differences, we all have the
same tenacity and zeal to help better our community and
see it grow.
The best way to describe "beyond" is through the
following quote- "I think.....you still have no idea. The
effect you can have on this world" - Suzanne Collins.
This issue of E-GO will always be the closest
to my heart. Learning about Rotaract in
different parts of the world, the work that
they do in their context and making new
friends’ worldwide has been a wonderful
experience. I believe this project is the
foundation, for bigger projects in the future.
My salutations to all the wonderful
Rotractors who have inspired us and re-
cemented our faith in this movement called
Rotaract.

Rotaract Club of
Keroggie
RI Dist. 9200
Ethiopia
Ethiopia, like most developing countries, has a long history of early child marriage, domestic and
sexual abuse. Thankfully the numbers have gone down in recent times but the effects still lingers in
the minds of the people.
Rotaract Club of Keroggie has been working with, the Association for Women’s Sanctuary and
Development (AWSAD) which works on providing psychosocial support and economic
empowerment for women who have gone through traumatic experiences: rape, physical and
domestic abuse. The association has safe houses in Addis Ababa and Adama. The society provides
trainings and skill development (handicrafts and food preparation) in order to provide them with the
tools necessary for their economic independence after leaving the premises.
After preliminarily visits, the club decided to build a library for the women and children at the home
designed by the engineers and architects of the club. The club also provided the library with books
with the support of Rotary Club of Portsmouth. Apart from the Library, the club also took part in the
rehabilitation process of 100,000 Ethiopians who returned from Saudi Arabia in 2013, as victims of
sexual, physical and mental abuse. The club aided the home with blankets and mattresses in the
initial stages of rehabilitation. Also to promote holistic rehabilitation, the club provided the home
with Yoga mats for yoga and meditation therapy.
“We have chosen to brief readers on the particular project stated above, simply to exemplify the
involvement of Rotaractors in matters regarding Peace and Development. The women get to go back
out in to the world knowing that not all the world is horrible. They get to become economically
independent. They will be able to read and so will their children. Rotaract and Rotary work hand in
hand to see to it that a community changes for the better. We give back to a community, a
community that could maybe someday pay it forward. “
Rotaract Club of San Pedro Sula
RI Dist. 4849
Honduras
Latin American countries have often been victims of economic crisis
and suffer under a system that does not work for them. Honduras
is one such example. Rotaract Club of San Pedro Sula carried out an
international project in 2015, to break boundaries and work for a
common goal. The club joined hands with 6 other clubs in from
Honduras, Argentina, México, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Colombia.
During World Rotaract Week all these clubs simultaneously
distributed food for the needy. As a second stage of the project
called "Vistiendo a Latinoamérica" (Dressing up Latin America),
clothes were collected over a period of one month by 28 Rotaract
clubs from 8 different countries. Honduras, Guatemala, México,
Panamá, Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina and Venezuela were the
participating countries and over 8,000 people received clothes on
the same day in different countries.
“This activity's purpose was to prove that we can all unite to do
something special, few people doing small things at the same time
can cause a great impact, and we laid foundation for future
activities to be planned. Now we know that our work is not limited
to our country, we owe our very own and beloved Latin America our
efforts, and will continue to work for our people. “
Tesco Food Bank
In the joyous season of Christmas, the members of
Rotaract Club of Colchester joined hands with the
Tesco Superstores for their Food Bank project.
Where in, people buy food for the needy at Tesco
stores and the same is distributed through the Tesco
Food Bank project.

Nepal Relief Project
In April 2015, as earthquakes shook Nepal and claimed the lives of thousands
of people; calls and messages for relief material filled our social media time
lines. There was very less time and a lot that was required. Rotaract club of
Bangalore E-City took it upon itself to have a quick fundraiser and send relief
materials to Nepal. In a time window of 24 hours, the members raised 72,000
INR (US$ 1,135). From the funds collected relief materials such as food,
hygiene products, face masks and medicinal supplies were bought and
dispatched within the same day.
The remainder of funds were split in half, one of which was transferred to RI
District 3190 Needy Heart Foundation dealing with supply of tent kits and
solar lamps to the affected areas. The other half was transferred to Samarpan
Foundation, which is working on ‘Rebuilding a stronger Nepal’.

International Day of Peace 2015
On April 25th
2015 the lives of people in Nepal crumble under
an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude. As the after affects of the
quake continued through the day, the earthquake claimed
more than 8,000 lives and left many injured. The earthquake
also triggered an avalanche in Mount Everest killing at least
19, making that day the deadliest day in the history of the
mountain. Thousands were made homeless and many villages
trampled.
The world rose in support of the people and aid flowed in
from everywhere. In the aftermath of this traumatic incident,
Rotaract Club of Yala thought it important to acknowledge all
the innocent lives lost and bring together all the Rotaract
clubs of the district to appreciate the rescue work carried out.
They along with six other clubs organized a candlelight
gathering in Patan Durbar Square, Kathmandu on 21st
September, World Peace Day.
The event was not limited to the square but took place
nationwide simultaneously. A joint bulletin was also published
by club along with Rotaract Club of Ambarnath, RI District
3140.

Rotary has been the biggest contributor for the
eradication of Polio in many parts of the world.
With only 2 countries left to be declared Polio
Free, it has been a tremendous journey. Clubs
from across the world for decades now have been
carrying out various projects to support Rotary
International in its efforts. Every small penny
raised has made a difference.
To support the last leg of polio eradication,
Rotaract Club of Nantes along with Rotaract Club
of Angers organized a walk as a fund raiser.
Through which they raised 200€. Not only was it a
great opportunity to meet new people but also a
means to support Polio Plus.

“Everyone has a right to study” is a project of Rotaract Club of Tsetsee Gung successfully running for three years.
The project’s objective is to raise funds to provide scholarships for students. This year the club raised 26 million
MNT (US$13,000) through two fund raisers.
The first fund raiser was an open mic night held on September 12th
2015. Open mic included performances of
popular artists such as the Lemons, Naagii & Jazz band, UFO, Sonio, Nomin, Cover singers, UB Comedy, DJ D.O.C.
As a result, they were able to raise one student's full-tuition fees. “Best of the Best” State Horse-head fiddle
concert was the second fund raiser. State Morin khuur Ensemble partnered with the club to organize “Best of
Best” concert on November 27, 28th
. State Morin khuur Ensemble is the biggest and only horse-head fiddle
ensemble that is highly recognized in Mongolia. This was the first time the ensemble partnered with Rotary
organization and some of the best pieces were performed. For both nights, 750 seats were sold.
375 applications were received for the yearly scholarship. The review committee shortlisted 27 candidates for the
second round of screening, after reviewing all aspects of the application. 10 students were then selected as the
recipients of the scholarship after a final interview. The scholarship awards ceremony was held at Independence
Palace. RI District 3450, Area 9 AG Mrs. Delgertsoo and Area 10 AG Jambalmaa, State Morin Khuur Ensemble
Conductor Tuvshinsaikhan.D, Director of Zurkhnii Ulaanbaatar NGO Mr. Sandui attended the ceremony and

Today, when the world is developing to provide all facilities equally to the differently
abled, Rotaract Club of Larnaca Kition decided that their community shouldn’t fall short
either. As part of their community service project, they decided to build a park for the
differently abled children. They will be carrying out this project along with their
sponsoring Rotary club.
In pursuit of this project, the club has carried out two major fundraisers so far. On
December 6th
, a live Jazz Night was organized and on December 25th
the Greek band
Imam Baildi was invited all the way from Greece for a live music night. We wish Rotaract
Club of Larnaca Kition all the very best with this unique pursuit.
Espoir
In a country that is troubled with political
instability and constantly affected by war,
Rotaract Club of Zahlé-Békaa through their
project reminded us that it is important to keep
faith, hope and spread happiness despite the
situation. On December 25th
2015, the members
of the club celebrated Christmas in McDonlads
along with the people of “Ryon d’espoir”. It is an
NGO that administers an IME, IMPRO and a CAT
in Zahle Bekaa Valley of Lebanon. It was founded
for children, adolescents and adults with
intellectual disabilities. It is also a centre that
encourages values of secularism and solidarity.

Project CEBU
Project Cebu 2015 is the 7th instalment of the annual empowerment
project for local communities in the Philippines. In collaboration with
Rotary Club of Cebu West, our project aims to help the less
privileged students in the island provinces of Cebu and Bohol. In this
project, we will visit three schools in Cebu and Bohol, namely
Zapatera Elementary School, Tapal Elementary School and Talibon II
School.
Our mission is to promote empowerment through education by
imparting knowledge of language, science, recycling and waste
management, as well as IT skills to the local student and teacher
community. Additionally, we aim to create a sustainable education
programme that allows for continued use by our local partners.
We took over this project because we believe that we can make a
difference in the lives of the children in Cebu and Bohol, and our
continuous vision for Project Cebu 2015 is to provide students with a
better school environment. Furthermore, we are also looking at
helping local non-profit organisations build communities so that they
can help as many households as possibly to escape the trap of
poverty.

A Club Worldwide
The members of Rotaract Club of Quatá set out on a
pleasant journey to connect with rotaract clubs across
the world through a one of its kind project. Chosen
after the root of their name “Quatá”, the club chose a
howler monkey stuff toy dressed in a blazer as the
mascot of this project. This mascot was then passed on
across the world. Each club that received it was to
carry the mascot along for a project, pin the mascot
with the club pin and parcel it to the next club. The
mascot travelled to Japan, Australia, Indonesia, Kenya,
Uganda, United Kingdom, Mexico, Paraguay and finally
back to Brazil. This project was a pleasant experience
for all the participating clubs and created a common
platform for them to carry out future projects.

Rotaract and Rotary work hand in hand to see to it that a community changes for the better. We give back to a community, a community that could maybe someday pay it forward. “ Rotaract Club of San Pedro Sula RI Dist. 4849 Honduras Latin American countries have often been victims of economic crisis and suffer under a system that does not work for them. In collaboration with Rotary Club of Cebu West, our project aims to help the less privileged students in the island provinces of Cebu and Bohol. In this project, we will visit three schools in Cebu and Bohol, namely Zapatera Elementary School, Tapal Elementary School and Talibon II School. Our mission is to promote empowerment through education by imparting knowledge of language, science, recycling and waste management, as well as IT skills to the local student and teacher community. Additionally, we aim to create a sustainable education programme that allows for continued use by our local partners. We took over this project because we believe that we can make a difference in the lives of the children in Cebu and Bohol, and our continuous vision for Project Cebu 2015 is to provide students with a better school environment. Furthermore, we are also looking at helping local non-profit organisations build communities so that they can help as many households as possibly to escape the trap of poverty. Rotaract Club of National University of Singapore RI Dist 3310 SINGAPORE A Club Worldwide The members of Rotaract Club of Quatá set out on a pleasant journey to connect with rotaract clubs across the world through a one of its kind project. Chosen after the root of their name “Quatá”, the club chose a howler monkey stuff toy dressed in a blazer as the mascot of this project. This mascot was then passed on across the world. Each club that received it was to carry the mascot along for a project, pin the mascot with the club pin and parcel it to the next club. The mascot travelled to Japan, Australia, Indonesia, Kenya, Uganda, United Kingdom, Mexico, Paraguay and finally back to Brazil. This project was a pleasant experience for all the participating clubs and created a common platform for them to carry out future projects.
