Elements of Art
An Informative Presentation for
Students

1. Line
• A line is a path made by a moving point. It can
be straight, curved, thick, or thin. Lines can
show direction and movement.

2. Shape
• A shape is a flat, enclosed area. It can be
geometric (like circles and squares) or organic
(like shapes found in nature).

3. Form
• Form is a three-dimensional shape. It has
height, width, and depth, like a cube, sphere,
or cylinder.

4. Color
• Color is what we see when light reflects off an
object. It has three parts: hue (name), value
(light or dark), and intensity (bright or dull).

5. Value
• Value means how light or dark something is. It
helps to show depth and contrast in an
artwork.

6. Texture
• Texture is how something feels or looks like it
feels. It can be rough, smooth, soft, or hard.

7. Space
• Space is the area around and between
objects. Artists use space to create depth—
showing near and far in a picture.
