The document presents a semi-automated approach for analyzing cyclone cloud intensity patterns using elliptic Fourier descriptors (EFD) and principal component analysis (PCA) applied to visible and enhanced infrared satellite images. This method aims to improve upon the subjective Dvorak technique by automating the classification process and is found to be robust against noise, effectively handling cyclone fluctuations. The study includes a methodology that consists of pre-processing and post-processing steps, leading to classification based on several prototype images and calculated t-numbers.
