Energy efficient guidance
for operating your air
conditioning unit low carbon
energy
Temperature set points
The ideal temperature set point for comfort
conditions is 22 ºC to 23 ºC. Ensure all units in
the same space are operating at the same set
point.
Don’t let separate heating and cooling systems
operate at the same time. This can be avoided
by setting a temperature ‘dead band’ awide
gap between the temperatures at which
heating and cooling cut in. The heating should
switch offwhen a temperature of 19ºC has
been reached and cooling should not come on
until the temperature exceeds 24ºC.
Ensure suitable time schedules are
programmed
The AC system should only operate within
core working hours to avoid unnecessary
energy use. Ensure suitable time schedules are
programmed to switch offthe AC systemwhen
it is not required.
Do not open the windows when the AC is on
This can result in excessive consumption of
energy as the AC systemwill not be able to
achieve its temperature set point and will run
continuously.
Maintain system components to
ensure efficiency
Energy consumption can increase by up to
60% if regular maintenance is not undertaken.
Dirty orfaulty fans, air ducts and components
directly affect system efficiency and will
increase running costs and risk of breakdown.
