Evaluation
Our first assignment is an evaluation, which uses a set of standards or
criteria to measure quality or effectiveness of a subject, such as a
place, product, or service. This week, you will evaluate a restaurant.
You may include details that allow your evaluation to come alive for
the reader.
The evaluation, worth 100 points, is due in the Dropbox at the end of
this week (Week 1). It is to be 1-2 pages.
Submit your assignment to the Dropbox located on the silver tab at
the top of this page. For instructions on how to use theDropbox, read
these Step-by-Step Instructions, or watch this Dropbox Tutorial.
See Syllabus / Due Dates for Assignments & Exams for due date
information.

Dilemma

Book Review
Our assignment is a book review, and you will choose one part of The
Omnivore’s Dilemmato review. It’s important to discuss common
expectations in your review, and whether the chapters in the part of
the book meet or do not meet these expectations. In your review, use
the common expectations that your classmates have posted in the
second threaded discussion for this week.
The Book Review ofThe Omnivore’s Dilemma—one of three parts—
is due in the Dropbox by the end of Week 2 and is worth 100 points.
It should be 1-2 pages.

ENGL 135 Week 3 Position Paper The
Omnivore's Dilemma
For more classes visit

Position Paper
Choose your topic for the position paper carefully, as it will be
expanded into the Research Paper later in this course. The topic
should come from one of the issues explored in The Omnivore’s
Dilemma. A theme of this bookis that conventional wisdom about
societal issues and challenges is often incorrect. Don’t be afraid to
take an unconventional stance on an issue.
The Position Paper should be 2-3 pages and is due at the end of Week
3 to the Dropbox.
Submit your assignment to the Dropbox located on the silver tab at
the top of this page. For instructions on how to use theDropbox, read
these Step-by-Step Instructions, or watch this Dropbox Tutorial.
See Syllabus Due Dates for Assignments & Exams for due date
information.

ENGL 135 Week 4 Research Proposal and
Outline paper
For more classes visit
www.snaptutorial.com
Homework
The Research Paper will be a longer version of your position paper,
just expanded with outside sources. The research proposal and outline
let the reader know your topic, research question, and how you plan to
expand your position paper. The research outline provides a road map
of your ideas for the research paper, including your thesis,
organization, and major ideas.
The research proposal and outline assignment, due at end of week 4 in
the Dropbox, is worth 60 points and should be 1-2 pages.
Submit your assignment to the Dropbox located on the silver tab at
the top of this page. For instructions on how to use the Dropbox, read
these Step-by-Step Instructions or watch this Dropbox Tutorial.
See Syllabus "Due Dates for Assignments & Exams" for due date
information.

ENGL 135 Week 5 Annotated Bibliography
For more classes visit
www.snaptutorial.com
Homework
The annotated bibliography is a very useful research tool in that it
summarizes the information found in each of your research paper
sources, and relates how the source will connect to ideas in your
paper. Be sure to review the section “Developing an Annotated
Bibliography” (pp. 472-474) of our textbook before writing your
bibliography. In Doc Sharing, you’ll also find the document format
for the annotated bibliography. You may find that other sources will
be added to your list, but at this point in your research process, you
should have at least five sources to include in your bibliography.
The annotated bibliography, due in the Dropbox at the end of week 5,
is worth 100 points. It should contain five sources with annotations of
two paragraphs each. One paragraph will need to summarize the
information found in each source, and the second paragraph will be a
connection to ideas in the research paper from each source.
Submit your assignment to the Dropbox located on the silver tab at
the top of this page. For instructions on how to use the Dropbox, read
these Step-by-Step Instructions or watch this Dropbox Tutorial.
See Syllabus "Due Dates for Assignments & Exams" for due date

ENGL 135 Week 7 Research Presentation
For more classes visit
www.snaptutorial.com
Homework
Your teacher will assign you to a peer review team. Complete the
second draft of your paper and post it to your team Discussion board
for peer review as directed. An additional 3-4 pages should be added
to your draft from last week. You will peer review two classmates’
second drafts, and your peer reviews are due at the end of the week to
the same thread.
This week, you are required to submit a PowerPoint presentation with
Speaker Notes of your final paper. There is a rubric and sample
presentation in Doc Sharing that will be help guide you through this
assignment. Your presentation should highlight the main points of
your paper, including your research and research plans, in a visually
appealing manner. While the complete final paper is not due until
next week, this assignment gives you the opportunity to share your
plans for completion, and will therefore help you organize your points
in a clear manner. For instructions on using PowerPoint, please visit
the link below. This presentation is worth 50 points and is due to the
Dropbox at the end of the week. Please see Doc Sharing, and the link
below, for instructions.
Basic Tasks in PowerPoint
Please keep the following goals in mind as you create your
presentation:
•There should be a total of 8-10 slides.
•Presentation should follow a similar organizational pattern as final
paper, including a six-section format: introduction and thesis
statement; problem section, first reason; problem section, second
reason; first solution; second solutions; and call to action.
•Slides should be clear (free of grammar and spelling errors), concise,
and consistent.
•Speaker Notes must be included to take the place of oral delivery.
These notes give you the opportunity to elaborate on the points listed
on your slides. They should support the content on the slides, rather
than repeat it. To create Speaker Notes:
oOpen a new PowerPoint presentation. The default view should be
“Normal View.”
oAt the bottom of the screen, under each slide, there is a box that
reads “Click here to add notes.” This is the area in which you should
type and add your Speaker Notes.

Homework
Your final research paper should be 8-10 pages, not including an APA
cover page and References page. It is worth 150 points and is due the
Thursday of Week 8 to the Dropbox.
Course Project
Use the first and second drafts of your research paper to complete
your final research paper. You have already received feedback on the
first draft of your paper. Retrieve your first draft of the research paper
from the Dropbox; use the feedback you received to make any
corrections, edit carefully, and make any improvements necessary for
you to earn a top grade. For the second draft of the research paper,
your classmates gave you feedback in Week 7 Discussion topic 2; use
this feedback to improve this section of the paper as well. Put it all
together as your final research paper; see the sample in Doc Sharing
on standardized testing. Refer also to the Document Format document
in Doc Sharing, Finally, refer to the Course Project under the Course
Home tab for information about the Research Paper.
