- 2. TIME MANAGEMENT Manage time. What helped me most for this class was making sure my assignments were finished a day early. It's easy to get behind in an online class so you really have to make sure you're not procrastinating. Submitting my initial discussion post a day early and then replying to my classmates as they start posting helped me to not feel so rushed and give more thoughtful responses. It's also a good idea to have your assignments ready to turn in a day early so if you have any issues submitting it there's enough time to fix it before it becomes late.

TIME MANAGEMENT Proper Usage: • Checking what assignments you have due at the beginning of the week and planning when to do your assignments and allowing yourself time to finish them is a good way to manage your time. Improper Usage: • Waiting to start your assignments on the day they are due and using your time on other things like procrastinating is not a good way to achieve success.
- 4. PARTICIPATION IN DISCUSSIONS The discussion boards are important places to gather new ideas and get clarification from your classmates. It's important to participate in these discussion so that you can submit your best work. Classmates can offer different insights and you'll miss out on it if you don't participate fully.
- 5. PARTICIPATION IN DISCUSSIONS Improper way to participate: • not offering any feedback or giving any tips. Compliments are nice, but not always helpful, especially if it's just a couple words like "Hey good job. Keep up the good work.“ Proper way to participate: • point out anything confusing or things that really stuck out to you. Offer advice and/or examples they could include in their essays. Offering ideas can sometimes help you as well.
- 6. UTILIZING THE WRITING CENTER When it comes to writing essays for your English 101 course, the library is invaluable. They have a designated Writing Center, which employs library staff and volunteer students in assisting students with all of their writing needs. You can book up to one hour appointments online via the Pierce College Library's website, or simply drop in for a quick fifteen minutes of help. After being unhappy with a grade received on an essay, I decided to try out the writing center for the next essay assignment. The improvement in my writing and grade was dramatic. They offer help with every step of the writing process. I will be using the writing center for every essay possible!
- 7. UTILIZING THE WRITING CENTER Improper Usage: • Not showing up prepared with a rubric or copy of assignment details, along with any information you would like to include. Proper Usage: • Booking an appointment online or in person, being on time, having materials ready so that no time is wasted. I would also advise you to try and write a rough draft and bring that with you to get the most out of this resource.
- 8. RESOURCES • Gathering resources is a vital part of writing an essay. • First, write down & cite as many facts and statistics or quotes you feel will work towards what you are writing. Once you have gathered all your information make an outline using the main points from your essay topic. Then, input the resources you found into your outline that help support those topics. Finally, Write your essay! • Tips on what you should not do. • Do not gather sources from unreliable websites. Lastly, Do not wait until the last minute to gather your sources, it will become overwhelming and your work will not be as organized

- 10. CITATIONS If you are having trouble citing your sources a good idea to use would be online websites that can cite a book, website, articles etc... to make your writing more credible. When writing essays for this class you will have to cite all your quotes at the end of your essay. Using websites to cite your sources is easy and effective to make your writing credible.
