English language reflection
- 1. : The English Language Reflection At first I want to say that the text was very interesting for me, because I consider that when we learn a new language we need not only the structure, meaning or semantics, we must understand how the language is built, the way in which the society influence on it. For that the text gives us a brief context about how the language has evolved or has received words from other languages. I want to develop some of the ideas which caught my attention, or which I consider very important. The first one is about the main influences of the English language, if we try to summarise or define the concept English we can say that English is a group of Germanic tribes and we can say that this tribes conquest the island violently. But another point apart of the violence with those tribes arrive to the island was political, I understood from the text that the Roman Empire and Latin left a strong legacy in language, but the important levels of organization and the way that the Empire conquest and administrate their lands was a very important fact. So we can understand that there are many different factors but the most important or more determinant are political, in the sense of the structure and organization of the society. In other hand the text explains that learning languages implies more than understanding words: “Learning the words of the English language, you still don’t know the English language is generated by grammar, also the structure of the sounds by phonetics and phonology, words by morphology, sentences by sintax, and the rules to understand the meaning by semantics, and at least the appropriate use by pragmatics”. To finish and the other important thing that I found in the text is that the language changes as the society do, it implies internal changes which refers to changes that occurs by instance, by speakers or in other words linguistic terms , and the external changes are determined by social or the influence of other cultures, which can be by conquest, invasions, political regimens or migrations etc...
