El Paso Country Club
A message from Club Presidents John Long
(2006), Paul Dudley (2007), and Edward
Santamaria (2008):
El Paso Country Club (EPCC) celebrated
its 100th anniversary in 2006. The oldest
golf clubs in the United States were begun
in the late 1800s, making EPCC one of the
oldest clubs in the country.
To celebrate its centennial in 2006, EPCC
held a variety of events. In June, we had a
party on our front lawn with wonderful jazz
music, food, and libations along with golf and
tennis tournaments and a swimming party.
The centennial committee prepared exhibits
to highlight the colorful history and people
of EPCC throughout the years. In October,
we had a black-tie dinner and dance party
that featured dances from each decade of
the century. A centennial DVD was produced
to highlight the rich history of the club.
EPCC has a tradition of being a family
club through its championship golf course
and tennis, swimming, fitness, and dining
facilities.
In this book, you will discover EPCC’s rich
and colorful history. We have members who
have won major professional and NCAA golf
and tennis championships. We have hosted
a number of professional golf tournaments
and, since 1974, the College All-American
Golf Classic. Bill Eschenbrenner, our golf pro
emeritus, was selected as the professional of
the year in 2006 by the Professional Golfers
Association of America (PGA).
Special thanks to the members of the
centennial committee for their work on
centennial events and production of this
book: Fred Albers, Neil Baker, Susie Best,
Bill Dahlberg, Carolyn Overley, and Don and
Sheryll Van Pelt.
We thank all of our past and present
members of EPCC for being a part of our
wonderful history. We hope that the next
one hundred years are as colorful and
meaningful to our member families.
