Refugee Challenges For Refugees
The current refugee scene is facing many complications. The challenges these individuals face
while moving to a new country has encouraged us to focus our project on providing refugees with
the assistance they need to succeed. Exploring different areas such as connections and services
through an interview process has given us a better insight into what path to take to better
accommodate refugees with the challenges in their current country. When conducting interviews
our group kept in mind the practicality of the refugee s situation. Since for many individuals, this
time in their lives is emotional we decided to reach out to the individuals that help refugees.
When deciding who to contact for interviews we kept all our options open, communicating with
immigration officers, program managers, University of Waterloo volunteers and teachers etc.
First, we created a target list of many individuals that we were interested to hear from. Our first
point of contact was email, with some participants they emailed their answers to us, however
with others they preferred to communicate through the phone. In the end, all of the interviews we
collected were completed through phone calls and emails. Our project is based around a
relatively touchy subject because in many cases, refugees have been forced from their country for
their own safety. If people ask how life was like before and what made them leave their home, they
may feel uncomfortable and out of place like the new kid on the

Analysis of Pink Floyd s Song, Mother Essay
Analysis of Pink Floyd s Song, Mother
Had Sigmund Freud lived 40 more years (to the overripe old age of 123), he would have been
delighted to hear such a wonderful example of his life s psychoanlytic work embodied in the
haunting lyrics of Mother. Or had Oedipus lived a few millennium longer than his fictional death
he would have found an adversary in the youthful Pink, a young boy whose desire for maternal
acceptance and love is arguably equal to the greatest mother centered protagonists in the history of
literature. Contrary to the eye gouging antics of Oedipus or even the grandiose melodrama later in
Floyd s album, Mother is relatively low key and emotionally subtle. The music itself is interestingly
split, though with few if any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So why would the band choose to illustrate such a serious stage of personal development with the
nursery rhyme like style of the song s chorus? Before we get to that, the song s emotional and
psychological message must first be examined.
Similar to the music, the lyrics are as subtle as they are unsettling. Although the song takes a
seemingly forthright form of question and answer, the psychological implications behind the
lyrics are far from being simple and straightforward. Although the battling was over, the effects
of World War II were still extent in the years following the atrocious fight. The destruction of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the atomic bomb as well as the deaths of millions of Holocaust
victims and soldiers were all too fresh in the global consciousness. Fears of nuclear warfare and
continued fighting ran rampant through the post war world, instilling a sense of uncertainty in
the generations of and following the war. Such fears are blatantly reflected by the first line of
the song in which Pink asks his mother if they ll drop the bomb, referring to the apprehension of
enemy retaliation. However, this line, as well as the majority of the lyrics, is open to a wide
range of interpretation. Because of the psychological tendency to group people into two main
categories (those like us and those apart from us, or the Other) coupled with the recent divisions of
global powers in the war, one automatically assumes that the they Pink refers to is the

The Problem Of The Public Education System
To understand how to solve a problem, we must first understand what we are trying to fix.
Throughout America s history parents, educators, and government officials have been debating
what changes must be implemented for American children to receive every opportunity possible to
gain an education that will prepare them for the future. However, these cries for reform are often
rushed, and done for the sole purpose of pleasing the public, not to actually correct the problem. In
my opinion, as a student myself, the problem is the public educationsystem as a whole. With
America s diverse 50.1 million school children, America cannot stand as a nation under a single
philosophy of teaching. The greatest threats in today s educational system are the rigid curriculum
and the undying stress placed on testing.
The impending problem in education is producing well balanced students mentally, spiritually,
emotionally, physically and financially. The curriculum today deals more with academic studies
and information than it does with being able to attain the success most aspire for. True success,
as has been determined, is a direct result of one s character. This opinion is supported by Diane
Ravitch s On How to Improve Our Schools , as she offers hope for preparing students for a useful
life and having good character, and making sound decisions about their life in the future. One of the
most pressing problems with our education system is this narrow focus of the curriculum.

We Don t Learn From Experience
We don t learn from experience; we learn from reflecting on experience
* John Dewey
From my limited experience in interacting with others, I have found that dealing with people is an
art. It is something I have to continuously work on and practice to improve. Out of the people I
deal with every day, I believe older adults are the most challenging to deal with. We all have stories
about our grandparents who dislike our partner who always tells them to start exercising or that
they should quit smoking. Or how that grumpy old neighbour from next door keeps forgetting our
name, although they have known us for over ten years. I think working with older adults is
difficult, and there are a number of reasons why I find this to be the case. Here I shall deal with two.
Albert Einstein once said, his biggest fear when he gets old is memory failure. What I find most
challenging when dealing with older adults is that they can easily forget things. I have an 81
year old friend who unfortunately spends most of his time in hospitals. I try to visit him once a
week, and most of the time I see him we usually have the same conversation. He asks the same
questions, talks about the same topics and sometimes repeats the exact same stories and jokes
from the week before. It saddens me to see him this way and I can see the frustration in the nurses
and doctors who deal with him. As a future dietitian, part of my job will be to set dietary programs
and give nutrition advice to older adults. I

Theme Of Prejudice In Pride And Prejudice
In contrast, Mrs. Bennet views the same subject oppositely. A lady s imagination is very rapid;
it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment, (Austen 35). She wishes
her daughter to become the matter of the society s interest, and bask all the external glory. The
marriage with Mr. Darcy tickles Mrs. Bennet s thought into associating it her daughter s life with
fame. There is no evidence of her concerning about Elizabeth s emotional assurance toward the
marriage. Oh! My sweetest Lizzy! How rich and how great you will be! What pin money, what
jewels, what carriages you will have!...Ten thousand a year! (Austen 535). In a period where a
divorce was inconceivable, he had no choice but to deal with his own mistakes. Prejudice is a risky
act that disables one s ability to distinguish the truth.
True love arises when one eliminates the pride and prejudice. Throughout the novel, it was rare to
pinpoint a couple, who married out of true love. Both males and females were in a constant
suppression by the societal standards. The rare exception is Elizabeth and Darcy. Initially, neither
of Elizabeth nor Darcy were moral. As the story progressed, they gradually dismissed one s ill
habits pride and prejudice. In case of Elizabeth, she experienced a life changing moment, going
inside out. At the ball, Elizabeth had a one dimensional judgment. Her interaction with Darcy was
highly dependent on prejudice. It became furthermore intense as George Wickham s ill rumours
supported her poor judgment skills. She was not able to be filter the information she percieved
through Wickham in a deeper level. She only relied on the external elements, such as what she
heard and saw. Darcy, on the other hand, was drowned in arrogance, and also believed in the
reliability of prejudice. At their first meeting Darcy bluntly commented on Elizabeth s
appearance.``She is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me; (Austen 13). Accordingly,
Darcy s narcissism offended Elizabeth, causing her to develop a stronger feeling of hatred. It was
only when Darcy broke the distorted wall between them, and approached her with a pure letter. The
letter, composed of Darcy s honest reflection on his internal life, enlightened

Evaluation Of A Backup Plan For The Business Enterprise
If the worst case state of affairs takes place, then there need to be a backup plan that restores the
gadget to its preceding level to minimize the effect to the business enterprise s functionality.
Research has proven that forty three% of companies that have any backup in location never reopen,
and that a catastrophe stage occasion can damage the machine and cost 25% of the sales. Having a
sturdy backupplan in region allows us avoid going through such effects. There are numerous

selecting a backup plan for an agency each available option should be analyzed to discover the
pros and cons of using that method and the great choice for the organization need to be selected to
make sure that it meets the employer s desires efficaciously.
In my opinion, the satisfactory backup approach for this business enterprise could be photo backup.
Photo backup works by means of taking a picture of the hard force of the computer at a
particular second in time. The duplication takes place through copying disk block while it s far
written or by way of the usage of cut up mirror set of disks. The recovery from backup is achieved
in any such way that the end result is nearly instant. Picture backup can supply complete, partial,

The Pains Of Sleep By Robert Southey Essay
The couplets encompass the odd tension of The Pains of Sleep : the ending is both over long,
extending the natural length of the stanza by an additional two lines, and abrupt, answering the
universal despair of wherefore fall on me? with an admittedly lacklustre response. The insistent
repetition such , wherefore , love furthers the resounding resolution of the poem. Coleridge s
draft of the poem in a letter to Robert Southey suggests that there is potential for movement
beyond the declaration of the last line, for he affixes c c c c c onto the end of the line, and
whilst a large portion of the draft is altered for its publication in 1816, this line remains
untouched. Perhaps the clue is in one of the lines from The Pains of Sleep which is altered for its
1816 publication but exists in the draft version sent to Southey as well: The self created Hell
within. (Letter to Robert Southey, September 12 1803.) The unfathomable Hell within. ( The Pains
of Sleep , line 46.) The poem can be seen as a verbal translation of the self created Hell within :
whilst the poem is structurally contained, the unfathomable interior world it describes, and the
claustrophobic blending of reality and unreality, all contribute to it seeming incomplete upon
interrogation. Coleridge rejects the universal question in favour of a personal answer because the
poem cannot adequately make sense of the distorted images it contains. Unlike

Example Of Heroes In Beowulf
Heroes have become a staple in every culture. Even cultures that existed long before our own.
This is because heroes give common people a figure to look up to and to try to mirror. Heroes also
give something for people to root for. Heroes can also come in many different forms. Some are
obvious and are told right from the start that they are a hero. Others play a less obvious role in the
overall story and can often be misinterpreted for a villain. Heroes represent all the good people
search for in life but they also have flaws to them as well making them more humanand more
relatable to people. Heroes can also vary based off of their gender, time period, location, and
purpose of the character. In the story of Beowulf, the hero is none other than the title character
Beowulf. Beowulf is a strong and very independent character who destroys monsters and
becomes a great king . He is not only able to stand up for himself but also stand up for other
people. This reflects the time periods society. Kaluza s law provides a reliable basis for dating
Beowulf to approximately the year 725 or earlier . Men are meant to be tough and strong. Men
are not supposed to be afraid of anything but instead be prideful and go around flipping mead hall
benches to show power. These are characteristics that were valued to the people of this time period
and these are characteristics that they would model their men after and how they expected their
king to act. Isaac Disraeli described the story of

Impact Of Globalization On The Middle Of The Twentieth...
Ever since the beginning of time, man was infatuated by visiting, seeing and interacting with other
societies. Over time globalization, as it was termed, accelerated at an exponential rate. There were
two rather recent major periods of globalization over the past five hundred years, one which began
in the late fifteenth century and the other started in the middle of the twentieth century. Each of
these new eras marked developments in advancements in communication, human rights, woman s
rights, religiosity and philosophy, technology and lastly in economics. Europeans in the late
fifteenth century were driven to explore. Shipping by sea was becoming popular. In the 1400s
many European monarchs faced a problem, as they tried to import spices and silks from China and
India, they were threatened by the Ottoman Empire who controlled Eastern Europeas well as the
Venetian traders who economically ruled the Mediterranean Sea with high tariffs. To avoid being
subservient to the Ottomans and Venice, the monarchies of Spainand Portugal, as well as other
European countries began commissioning fleets of trading ships to find a route to Asia
circumventing those locations. The Europeans discovered that by traveling below Africathrough the
Cape of Good Hope they could reach Asia without much problems. These ships needed to find
places to port and the Europeans began setting up port cities along the African coastline. Originally
when the Europeans moved into Africa they inhabited the

pGLO Transformation: A Look into Our Future with DNA and Genetics
Abstract
This lab investigated the central dogma of molecular biology by studying the expression of
jellyfish Green Fluorescent Protein in E. coli (Mardigan, 2011). After transforming E. coli with the
GFP gene under the arabinose operon promoter, GFP expression was analyzed with and without
arabinose. Induction was seen only in media with arabinose. To further study GFP protein and
structure, an SDS Page or gel electrophoresis was conducted where proteins were charged to
allow them to move in an electrical field in terms of their size. To further study the role of the
arabinose operon in GFP expression an overnight culture was done where the plate was frozen and
incubated to induce optimal protein folding. The GFP was then purified. Centrifugation, use of
buffers, and a column was used to separate the GFP and bacterial cells.

coli the bacteria that will be used to house the GFP is the competent cell. They are called
competent cells because they are able to accept foreign DNA or plasmids. They are first observed
in 1928 by Frederick Griffith where he proposed that bacteria are capable transferring genetic
information (Havarstein, 2010). These cells such as E. coli are normally made competent by
exposure to a rich calcium environment, where the mixture calcium chloride will be used in.
Calcium chloride s positive charges will cancel out the negative charge of the plasmid and E. coli
s cell wall weakening it, making it easy to pass.
By subjecting these bacteria through sudden temperature changes or heat shock, a difference in
pressure in the outside and the inside of the cell is made, that causes pores, through which the
mobile supercoiled plasmid enters. After normalizing the cell temperature, its walls will heal.
When the E. coli has now taken up the plasmid with GFP, it will be able to grow in agar plates

Autism And Its Effects On Children Essay
In the United States 1 in 68 births results in an Autism diagnosis (Autism Society). In this time
period, at the moment, there are new medical discoveries every day. These breakthroughs range
from new diseases prevention methods, to new cures for previously terminal illnesses. So, because
our society is constantly changing, evolving, and improving, it is absolutely necessary to keep up
with the awareness of these new discoveries. One disorder that has existed for years, but has
recently gained a lot of awareness is Autism. Autism is defined as a disorder in brain development
that ultimately affects its victims everyday social interaction (Autismspeaks.org) . Signs and
symptoms of Autism are usually shown in early childhood, and are easily detected by parents, if
they are aware. However, if a parent or guardian notices any signs, they should take action
immediately. How fast they take action in this situation could make or break the future of their
child. Many symptoms have been connected to autism, and they are seen the best in these areas;
behavior, social skills, and speech. A child s guardian can observe these symptoms in these areas
to further increase the accuracy of the diagnosis. The average adult lacks the professional training
that psychologists and behaviourists have, so they may only be able to zero in on high frequency
behavior (Zwaigenbaum 2008). Children with autism tend to act out more than their peers in
school or daycare and are more prone to frequent

Evidence Of The Changing Roles Of Women In Women And Women
evidence of the changing roles of female involvement within terrorist organisations along with
increasing numbers of female Islamic terrorists (Bakkers de Leede, 2015; Lavina, 2015).
Terrorist organisations traditionally maintained gendered specific roles and women
predominantly provided a support type role (Bakker de Leede, 2015). This was in the form of
bearing children or recruiters (Bloom, 2011). This has been evolving with instances of women
actively engaging in violent Islamic terrorism (Bloom, 2011). High profile cases of home grown
radicalisation of females of a British background like that of Samantha Lewthwaite and Sally
Jones could be examples of a new breed of female terrorist (Bakkers de Leede, 2015; Berkowitz ...

It is hoped that an updated and more comprehensive analysis of female radicalisation and their
involvement within Islamic terrorist organisations will lead to a greater understanding of female
radicalisation and extremism and subsequently the development of more effective measures to
combat this phenomenon in the form of more gender specific counter terrorism strategies (Saltman
Smith, 2015; Musial, 2017).
Background/ Context
Terrorism is not a new occurrence; it is a common feature of Northern Irish history due to the
conflict of The Troubles (MI5 Secret Services, 2016; Newburn, 2013; Wright, 2010). Traditional
terrorism like that of the IRA (Irish Republican Army) in Northern Ireland predominantly occurred
within local geographical parameters and against specific targets, it also operated in a fairly
predictable nature (Morgan, 2004, Wright, 2010). In order to deal with the threat of Northern Irish
terrorism, intrusive counter terrorism measures were introduced (Mythen, 2014; Wright, 2010).
These were designed to deal with domestic and localised terrorism (Morgan, 2004; Mythen, 2014;
Wright, 2010). In recent years, the terrorist threat has expanded beyond local parameters (Wright,
2010).
Globalisation has blurred how terrorism operates and has aided the development of a modernised
terrorism (Aas, 2013). The Home Office acknowledged that terrorist threats have changed in recent
years and this is expected to change further unless an efficient solution is

Skiing is a worldwide sport and pastime, but how much do you really know about it? My

until much later in that region (National Geographic). The skis are very different than today s,
they are closer to eight feet long and made of wood, fur, and horse hair. They had one pole to
keep their balance, not two. The skis varied in size over the years, the largest being a huge twelve
feet long and the smallest being about two and a half feet long. The people from older times used
the skis to travel faster on snow to catch animals by catching up to them. They have greatly

Decompositions. She spoke about the stages and and events of decomposition that occur during the
mummification. I really enjoyed how she analyzed the significance and meaning behind
hieroglyphics and related it to her findings about mummification. Dr. Bennet revealed an
enlightening perspective on ancient Egyptian history.
In American society, it has been understood that mummification was done to prevent the

an entire world of gods. This immediately reminded me of modern day belief systems. Under the

directed towards that individual. Additionally, there is an ancient story line that depicts society
during the time the holy figures were alive. More specifically, with the Christian religion, the bible

text, the bible serves as historical context. For the Egyptian religion , the hieroglyphics provide
greater insight into their belief system. It reveals a relationship between the gods and nature. Rather

Domestic Abuse And Domestic Violence
I chose to do the domestic survivors subculture I feel as if it was a great topic to focus on its
going to reveal a lot of emotion. Domestic violence can happen to anyone. Domestic violence
sometimes called battering is against the law. At first glance, it is hard to imagine why a victim of
domestic violence would voluntarily remain in the relationship with the abuser. As you may know
domestic violencedoesn t always start off as violence it starts off as in the form of love. The
abuser feels as if they love the person so much that it hurts. That the abuse they inflict on the
person they love is because they love and care about them. Many victims feel as if no one will
believe them. There has been so many cases that have gone unanswered because no one really
knows what goes on. The person being abused hides what the abuser does because they think it is
something they did wrong or they think the person loves them. Domestic abuse comes in different
forms it can be verbal, physical, or sexual. Domestic abuse leaves psychological scars from
anxiety due to living in ongoing danger. In my essay you will get to know a lot of women that
have survived domestic abuse and their stories.

1970s Environmental Issues
It is crucial to begin with an analysis of the most current public perspective, using surveys and
research done by the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication and Pew Research Center.
This point will be characterized by how environmental issues tie into politics and influence a
registered voter s vote. Will set up the framework for the following point of past trends and laying
out why public influence is impacted by events. Prior to the 1960s, environmental issues were not
of principal concern or of mass knowledge. (Rome, 2003) Up until the 1970s, environmental issues
were predominantly state issues and rarely regulated by the federal government. Building up to the

(Cota, 1995) While there was a growing concern that follows the great environmental era, there was
concern that the 1980s would see decline in public concern for environmental problems. (Dunlap

the environmental decade may be just that the only environmental decade. While in no comparison
of the magnitude of the 1970s, this decade was not completely void of legislation. As seen with the
1990s, the focus of legislation was shifted to responding to high publicity environmental disasters
such as Love Canal, which gained an extraneous amount of coverage and influence. In the next
decade and on, environmentalism becomes less of a public movement and more so a political
statement. Suddenly, the argument is shifted from wanting regulation to a debate between

Essay on Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler
Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler
To learn history means to seek and find the forces which are the causes leading to those effects
which we subsequently perceive as historical events. Adolf Hitler Growing up poor in a small
town in Austria he had dreams of becoming famous; some would even say this dream soon
became an obsession. This fascination soon engulfed his life, viewing his goals as a catalyst for a
better life. After a brief stint in the army he pursued this dream and learned to use propaganda as a
springboard to achieve a high ranking position in a political party. This political party was currently
in power in the country he had immigrated to in his twenties, a country he could now call his own.

The Background
I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews I am
fighting for the Lord s work. Adolf Hitler
To fully understand the views expressed in this paper, it is necessary to understand Adolf Hitler
and to provide context as to why Schwarzenegger is being compared to what many believe to be
the embodiment of evil itself. This section of the paper will focus on the background of both states:
California and Nazi Germany.
In 1929 Germany was hit with the final blow to an already struggling nation; the Great
Depression. Black Tuesday hit Germany in the midst of a naval blockade, extreme hyperinflation,
and poverty for many Germans. Many historians believe that the blockade against Germany was
the main reason for the rise of Nazism and consequently World War II. Regardless, Germany was
in a time of crisis and in desperate need of salvation.
In 2003, California, while not suffering from the same magnitude of crisis as pre Nazi Germany,
was by no means experiencing prosperity. California was in the midst of an extreme unbalance:
suffering from a massive debt, a governor who seemed unable to help, and increasing
unemployment. Residents were exhausted of false promises made by former governors and
looking for change. A recall was ordered on Governor

Theme Of Conflict In Ayn RandBy Equality 7-2521
The writing of the author s work depicts the author s purpose in the novel. With the tragic
society that Equality 7 2521 survives in, it not only proclaims the major conflicts in the story,
but also passes along Ayn Rand s writing on how it contributes to expressing the conflicts even
further. The prime conflict is individualism itself in a world that doesn t follow the philosophy
of one s attributions to be upheld. It doesn t exist because of a society that sways the course of
people s lives, coming in the way to maintain an atmosphere with no higher power than another.
We are one in all and all in one. There are no men but only the great WE, One, indivisible and
forever. (Rand, 1) This is shown in the novelbecause Equality 7 2521 cannot go ahead with what
he wants to have for himself in life which is to be in the Home of the Scholars but instead is
assigned to become a Home Sweeper. Moreover, the style that Ayn Rand
uses in her writing gives
the readers the better awareness of how strict the society is that not even the narrator can speak
and refer about himself. It is a sin for anyone to fall in loveand choose their own mate as Equality
7 2521 wants and des with Liberty 5 3000. He went to prison for writing, doing scientific
experiments inside a hidden tunnel, falling in love and most of all presenting to the council an
invention that doesn t exist in a world without advanced technology. The manner that she uses helps

Stuart Hall s text, Encoding, Decoding identifies three positions one can take in decoding an
image. These three positions are dominant, negotiated and oppositional. In light of Hall s theory,
this essay will, firstly explain the process of encoding and decoding and secondly will decode the

The viewer that approaches the documentary, Super Size Me , with a negotiated decoding
position identifies the codes of eating and indulging in fast food will eventually kill you. They
identify that there are high risks with eating McDonalds. The viewer will then modify and adapt
the codes within the documentary to reflect on their own position, experiences and interests.
These positions can be of acknowledgement that McDonalds is bad but it s not bad for everyone
and that some people s bodies can handle the intake of such a diet. Other modifications could be
that if they ate fast food every day that they would love it and would believe that they would be
ok. They would acknowledge that yes McDonalds is not good for one s health but it s not the
only cause that made him so sick. They believe that yes eating it was shown to be harmful to the
body but that it will not happen to them because their body is in good shape.
The decoder with the oppositional position will understand the connotative message of the image
full well but is in a direct oppositional relation to the dominant signifiers and therefore decodes the
message in a contrary way (Hall). The viewer that approaches the documentary, Super Size Me ,

The Advantiveness Of Liberal Arts Education
The liberal arts refers to a wide variety of academic subjects such as english, math, philosophy,
and social and physical sciences included in all college curriculums. The usefulness of a liberal
arts education has been widely debated recently on its viability and effectiveness in preparing
students for accessible occupations and societal settings. Many feel a liberal artseducationis a perfect
way to hone someone s skills in communication, critical thinking, and writing. Supporters of a
liberal arts education find it more important to learn how to think rather than focus on a narrower
education that trains for a specific skill or position. While others disagree with the general merits
the liberal arts provide; rendering them inconsequential and inefficient as there is no specialized
skill being learned. While it is true that the liberal arts does not teach one specific specialized skill,
it cannot be denied that it does teach incalculable skills such as effective communication, analytical
and critical thinking, and problem solving that is instrumental to being a well rounded, successful
individual regardless of a person s chosen career path.
A liberal arts education is multifaceted, as a result, it serves two main purposes: it gives students a
wide range of options and opportunities to take courses from varying subject areas and it provides
the core skills that many employers find valuable. I feel it allows students to acquire the
fundamental, intellectual tools that

Fake News As An Unreliable Form Of Satire
The emergence and growing population of satire holds a strong position in the definition of
modern journalism. The term satire has been replaced in the mainstream by the phrase fake news
. This title implies an unreliable form of storytelling meant to translate to trickery, as this form of
news can hold just as much power in today s media as legitimate news outlets. Regardless of it s
popularity, the word fake should not be considered accurate, nor is it true to the real meaning. Satire
typically aims to entertain an audience or grab its attention in a more interesting way, while news
reports capture an event simply as it was. However, both forms of news may be guilty of carrying
bias in their stories, one more obviously than the other. Fake news , still a form of journalism,
carries a satirical form of political commentating that is still necessary in the world of reporting,
just in a different format and done for a different purpose.
The success and impact of satirical news stories rely on the consumer s ability to understand this
form of irony. If this effect is achieved, a story can be just as beneficial as any other form of
media. Popular satirical figure John Oliver agreed with this in reference to the use of irony in
relation to the viewer, stating in an interview that his job required making jokes about the news and
sometimes we need to research things deeply to understand them. (Oliver, 2014). This form of
storytelling is not always successful. The audience

The Innocence of the Devil by Nawal El Saadawi
In this novel, the reader (including myself) should have sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss. I felt
horrible for both of these characters in the novel. Ganat was the proud and defiant woman who was
physically attractive. Narguiss was the head nurse in the asylum who was Ganat s best friend. I had
sympathy for Ganat and Narguiss because of what they had to go through in the novel. Ganat was
accused for being born with her eyes wide open, not wearing a veiland supporting Satan. The judge
that tried her was an oppressive man and sent her to an asylum for treatment. I thought it was
injustice that Ganat had no say in what was accused of her. Having wide open eyes when born
was in no way Ganat s fault yet she was punished for it, simply unbelievable! I understand that in
the Islamic culture, a women needs to keep their head down but what does a new born infantknow

The Crucible Act 4 Seasons Essay
The four seasons specify the time of year. Seasons generally prepare you for the weather conditions
for the specific months. However, the four seasons, in literature, can represent the mood and age
throughout the text. For example, in the story, The Crucible the author used the season, fall,
leading the reader to the interpretation that the storyline will have a gloomy and an eerie
atmosphere. Therefore, when the author adds the type of weather or describes the climatein his or
her story, they are trying to illustrate the mood. In the play, The Crucible, the author, Arthur Miller,
used fall and springas an illustration of the setting. In Act I, the setting was placed in the spring;
as a result of, everything was peaceful and fine. In Act III and IV, the author used fall to describe
the mood. In the fall, the leaves begin to change colors, die, and wither away. Thus, implying the
attitude of the play will consist of darkness and departure. In Acts III and IV, in The Crucible,
Arthur Miller used the seasonfall. The Crucible read A cell in Salem jail,... Show more content on

But the main theme in the book and the play is murder . The whole play revolves around this
mysterious murder, eventually we find out that the murder revolves around money. It shows us that
people will do anything and everything in the pursuit for money. The play has a universal theme,
meaning that everyone could relate to it. Not everyone has killed someone to get money, but
everyone can understand the lengths some people go to obtain what is not rightfully theirs,
especially money.
The style of the murder mystery is cosy . This means that this style of murder is not as
horrifying or violent as some other murders. The violence is toned down and is not as terrifying
because it is treated in a humorous way. Cosy murder mysteries aren t filled with blood and gore
so you could easily watch or read this type of murder without getting completely scared. Agatha
Christie used cosy murder mysteries a lot in her books and it considered the cosy queen .
A Murder Is Announced also addresses the idea of class and status. This play is set in England in
the 1950s and class and social structure defined society in that time.

Essay On Creation Myths
Creation Myths My mythology class has been reading and learning about most of the creation
myths. A creation myth is how the earth began and how humans first came to inhabit it. Also, we
have reviewed the motifs of the myths. A motif is like a pattern of the similar situations happening
throughout the myths. The three motifs I thought that were the most common were that most had a
single creator, people were created from organic material, and the battles that went on between most
of the gods.
Most myths had a single creator In my opinion I think that if there were more than two creators then
that would be too much power. A creator is the one that puts the earthtogether and forms the first
humans on earth. Quite a few creation myth stories had only one god that created everything. For
example, the Babylonian had one creator which was Marduk, the Hindu had one creator which was
Prajapati, the Inuit had a single creator which was Raven, the Chinese said there was only one and
his name was Pan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the battles were bigger than others but I thought that the battles were important to use as
a motif. In the Hindu creation there was a disagreement of the choices Prajapati was making with
his daughter. The other gods got very angry with Prajapati. For revenge the gods created a monster
named Rudra, and it haunted Prajapati. Once the monstrous creature found him, he shot him with
an arrow and killed him. In the Norse creation Odin was the god that created the humans, but the
gods did not accept how he was making them. Ymir s sisters especially did not agree with Odin s
idea so they planned to get revenge on Odin. The sisters gathered at the foot of the Yggdrasil and
carved lines into it, the lines represented human lives and the twist and turns that humans go
through. Humans would never be as powerful, not even Odin could fix the

Analysis Of H Is For Hawk, By Helen Macdonald
In Helen Macdonald s memoir, H is for Hawk, she explores her journey of grief and recovery
following the death of her father and how a goshawk and the wildness it embodies allows her to
rediscover herself and restore her own humanity. In the very first chapter Macdonald takes time to
assert her opinion of the sanctity and power of the wild, a world separate from and yet connected to
our own, very much like the land of Faery from Gaelic and later English mythologies. To
Macdonald the wild is a placeand a presence that is both alien and familiar. Macdonald hunts down
these places that to her seem to be more deeply connected to that force, wildnesswithin and beyond

Macdonald experiences a near prophetic realization that she requires a goshawk and by intense
impulse she purchases a goshawk from a man in Scotland over the internet, having immediately
become enthralled by the grace and beauty of the bird the man puts on display, and spends all
her time training it, and finally reveling in the sight of the hawk in flight, losing herself in the
righteous fury of a predator at work. She thinks of herself less and less as a part of humanity,
stating a feeling of disconnect and alienness with other people and society at large being much
more comfortable hunting with her hawk. Macdonald begins to associate more closely with the
hawk than with people, believing herself to be turning into a hawk at some personal level,
Hunting with the hawk took me to the very edge of being human. Then it took me past that place
to somewhere I wasn t human at all, (195). Macdonald fancies herself a changeling born of
another world, the world of man being nothing but a place of discomfort and pain, she sees her
only chance at a reprieve to return to a place of swaying trees and impenetrable fog where
goshawks rule the sky, where wildness dwells and reigns supreme. In this sense Macdonald s
hobby is far more than just a hobby to her, she at some level believes that this distance between
her and other people, and her obsession with Mabel is all a part of her healing process, of some
unspoken, unknowable ritual in which the wild will encapsulate all that she is and remove her

Energy Sources And Non Renewable Energy Source Essay
Intended Audience
Within this paper I wish to address two audiences, the first is best described as local
homeowners who are presently in the vicinity of windmills or who will be in the future, and are
somewhat skeptical of this renewable energy source. The second group that I wish to address are
those who are deemed to be environmentalists, who have a very strong faith in wind energy and
other forms of renewables. Since these two audiences can be quite different the way in which I
address concerns are going to have to be comprehensive to both.
With focusing first on locals, I wish to include the basic information on wind turbines so that all
aspects of this renewable energy source can be fully understood. I also will include a comparison of
wind energy to other forms of renewable energy sources and non renewable sources to point out
important numbers and values within the environment, the economy, and society. Locals have
many important needs, wants and values. They value their homes not only financially but in a
family sense as well, they value their health and safety. The want windmills to not have a negative

Making the Best Use of Pakistan s Natural Resources
INTRODUCTION
Pakistan is rich in natural resources. It has mountains , plains , deserts , fertile land , rivers and
oceans. Natural resources are very important to the development and prosperity of a country. The
important thing is to use them for the welfare of human beings and the development of the country
economically because the progress of a country depends entirely on the use of available resources.
Significant natural resources are described as follows :
1. Soil
Soil dry Pakistan belong to group having high carbonate and calcium poor in organic matter.
These vary in color from reddish brown in the north to the red or gray in the south. These soils
are generally fertile due to training. The barrage of new stores near the river called Khaddar and
mostly consists of sand . The old bar alluvial plateau, called Bangar , consists of finer particles
loams . At the foot of the mountains the soil is sandy and generally becomes thinner towards the
plains where Khankah , the concentration of limestone is occasionally . The soils of the deserts of
Thal and Thar and Balochistan are carried by the wind. In southern Potwar is a thin layer of
residual floor coating .
2.Water
Water is a basic necessity of life . Human beings , animals and plants can not live without water.
Water is essential for maintaining the quality of life on earth . This finite commodity has a direct

involve 100 to 1,000 men. The rules were agreed upon the day before the competition was
scheduled to begin. Today the rules of the game have been codified to help prevent any confusion.
The sport of Lacrosse is played by both men s and women s teams. The rules for each are similar,
but there are differences. For example, body checking is illegal in the women s game. That is
why the amount of protective equipment in the women s game is far less than that for the men
s game. The men s game uses ten players while the women s game uses 12 players. Women s
sticks cannot have mesh for the pockets, and the ball must be located above the sidewall every
time it is in the pocket. This makes shooting and stick handling much more difficult than in the
men s game. The field size for men is 60 yards by 110 yards while that for women is ... Show more

These 10 positions include 3 attacks, 3 mid fields, 3 defenders, and a goalie. Throughout the game
there are tactical rolling substitutions such as you might see in ice hockey. This gets fresh players
on the field so that the game can be played at an extremely fast pace. The purpose of the game is
to score as many points or goals as possible in the time allotted. The goals are 6 feet by 6 feet,
and they are placed about 10 yards into the playing surface so that players can run behind them,
again, much like ice hockey. The tennis sized ball is made of solid rubber so it can hurt if it hits

A Short Note On The Uses And Functions Of A Server On...
BIND in Linux BIND (Berkeley Internet name domain) is the most commonly used DNS (domain
name system) server on the Internet, and it is the defacto standard on Linux and other Unix like
operating systems. DNS is the name resolution (i.e., translation) system that permits users to locate
computers on a network by using their domain name rather than their IP addresses. IP addresses,
which form the basis of addressing on the Internet and most other networks, each can contain as
many as 12 digits under the currently mainstream IPv4 addressing scheme (or as many as 32
hexadecimal digits under the next generation IPv6 addressing scheme). It can be difficult for
humans to remember such addresses, but it is relatively easy for them to remember domain names,
which typically use alphabetic characters and consist of words, abbreviations or acronyms. BIND
provides an openly redistributable reference implementation of the major components of the
DNS, including a DNS server (called named), a DNS resolver library and tools for verifying the
proper operation of the DNS server. The resolver library is a collection of functions written in the
C programming language that provides hostname to IP address and IP address to hostname lookup
services.BIND was originally written at University of California at Berkeley (UCB) as a graduate
student project under a grant from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration
(DARPA). The acronym BIND originally stood for Berkeley Internet

Owens Valley Summary
Kharl argues that in the case of the Sierra Nevada s Owens Valley, located approximately 250
miles north Los Angeles, the valley s agricultural shareholders and the City of Los Angeles
originally sought an agreement that reserved sufficient water for valley residents to maintain their
ranching life style while concurrently exporting the valley s surplus to the soon to be developed
San Fernando Valley. Such an agreement would allow rural users to maintain their ranches while
concurrently allowing Los Angeles to grow. In 1913, as plans for the Los Angeles Aqueduct
finally came to fruition with water flowing from the valley to the basin, years of effort ended with
both parties unable to agree to an acceptable division of those waters with the... Show more content

Climate change and its impact on basic water supply is at their foreground. It is an unfortunate
reality that the terms of the Colorado Compact, the document dividing the Colorado s waters, is an
unworkable document. Based on allotments formulated in an especially wet year, the average
volume now flowing does not meet the amounts specified in the agreement. Under the terms of the
document, California receives the largest share, but with Southern California s exploding
population, this will be increasingly inadequate. Absent changes in both urban and agricultural use
patterns, the deficit will only grow and further stress the state s political and economic systems.
Man s mastery will thus prove illusory and short lived and the original problems of water supply
will return in highly magnified

The Pros And Cons Of Politicians
Government is said to be necessary to the existence of a civilized society but how could one survive
in a society where the Government isn t civil to a nation. They have consistently failed to keep
Bahamians safe and secure. In Bahamian society cronyism, embezzlement, scandals and corruption
have plagued our unsuccessful governments. They must be held accountable thus, circumstances
like these should result in immediate termination of any politician without exceptions.
The unfair practice by Politicians who provides employment and other favors to individuals has
been skeptic for Bahamian. It is common that once Government changes, many of the staff within
the various ministries will also. In June 2012, The Tribune reported that in less than two months in
office, the current Administration decided not to renew the contracts of eighty Urban Renewal
employees. Thus, eighty persons were left unemployed and eighty families affected due to the
actions of the careless Politicians. Many that campaigned and organized rallies for the Progressive
Liberal Party have been compensated with employment in Government agencies. A similar incident

1.Introduction
The value and role of knowledge is different in every culture but good basic education is essential
in every culture. Primary and secondary education in UK (up to 16) is compulsory for all
children. However, there were a limited number of high quality schools and these are
oversubscribed application. That created problem of distributing pupils between schools (Hurst
and Sugden, 2011). So a practical and effective admission policy has great influence on the quality
of basic education. The purpose of writing this report is to argue for the reliability and
effectiveness of current enrolment policy. According to this report, it will help admission policy

(c). General Problem Solving A test of general knowledge, assessing the ability to apply logic to
simple problems (Simon, 1991). This 11 plus examination was replaced by a non selective
system on all local education authorities (LEAs) governed by 1976 Education Act. Non selective
system means the provision of education in any school where arrangements for the admission of
pupils to the school are based on selection wholly or mainly by reference to ability or aptitude for
music or dancing (Trowler, 2003).In the 1980 Education Act parents were given right to choose
the school they wanted (though LEAs could refuse on grounds of inefficient use of resources

education legislation in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (Scottish education legislation is
separate from that of the rest of the UK.) enabled existing maintained schools to opt out of LEAs
control (Trowler, 2003). In the 1998 School Standards and Framework Act set out a new
framework for schools (to be implemented from 2000) with community schools replacing county

The Controversial Matter Of Abortion
The highly controversial matter of abortion has been lurking in and out of many governmental
discussions and debates. It has lasted for many decades and was highly practiced until the 1880s
when laws and regulations were put into effect. Recently, this topic has been brought up once again
and is focused on areas mainly the Southern and Western parts of the United States. Abortionis one
of those topics where it can go either way; it s either pro life or pro choice. Both are two very
different sides that are so sensitive it can reach out to many people on multiple levels of their
emotional and mental state of mind, due to their many religious beliefs. Along with that, it is
blown up and mixed in with the negativity of social media and that is a clear the problem and
decisions become biased. It comes to these questions that makes me wonder about who should
be involved? And why does there have to be only one right choice for abortion and not a neutral
side? Or that why can t abortion simply be accepted by society after many decades of voting and
reforming the same laws? The only thing that separates one side from the other side is the
argument of the right to life , which is pro life. It is when a girl or a woman has an unplanned
pregnancyand must under any circumstances keep the baby from when it is conceived until when
the child is born unless the mother has a life threatening situation that involves the baby. However,
a pro choicer has somewhat of a different out look on

Comparison of the Mechanical Properties of Fresh and...
Considering the results, one could conclude that freezing has an affect on the toughness properties
of the samples. Although, the quantitative mechanical properties changes by freezing the samples,
the qualitative behavior of the samples does not show any obvious changes in the toughness
properties, which is a macro mechanical property.
This study has a number of limitation that has to be considered. First of all, although the fresh
tissue samples were collected and tested shortly after postmortem, the fresh tissue samples were
dead and their mechanical properties could be different in comparison to live tissue samples in the
body. Moreover, the sharpness and thickness of blades, the blades angles and the type of lubrication
affect the fracture toughness values. In order to make the sharpness of blades steady state, the blades
used in the experiments were preconditioned by passing through the discarded porcine tissue at
least twenty times before the tests. GEM single edge 0.009 aluminum back razor blades were used.
Different types of oils were tested and the one causing the lowest amount of friction were selected
for the experiments. Furthermore, the consistency of the crack tip condition was assured by means
of utilizing the cutting blade constraining the crack tip configuration. However, crack blunting and
fiber pullouts cause toughening in the physiological conditions. The next step of this study could be
to study the histological variations between the frozen and

How The Media Is The Issue Of The 21st Century
1. The relationship of money to Free Speech is the issue of the 21st century. (Bill Moyers in
Freedom of Speech for Sale).
a) In the light of this quotation, explain both the advantages and dangers of media ownership
concentrated in only a few mega corporations. Refer to specific readings/viewings to back up your
thoughts.
b) According to Robert McChesney ( Corporate Media the Threat to Democracy ), and the movie
Free Speech for Sale, why is such a concentration of corporate ownership a threat to democracy ?
(Hint: begin by defining democracy. )
c) Include in your discussion both what the function of the media should be in a democracy, and
what the function of the media is in danger of becoming under the current system. Use specific
examples from the readings and the viewings.
The issue in the 21st century is the fact that corporations are the hand that guides the media and
the government. When Viacom, Disney, and other large companies are also paying for the
lobbying for the politicians, it is no longer a democracy for the people, by the people, but a
corporatocracy. This is a term used to refer to an economic and political system under control by
corporations and/or corporate interests. Only the people with deep pockets use their access to the
media to overwhelm the general public. Such as The Telecom Act of 1996 tried to break up
television monopolies but Title 3 Cable Services , which allowed for media cross ownership just
basically canceled out the main idea

Throughout the years, Tom Brady has proven himself as the most consistent quarterback

completion percentage per game. Not only does he have the highest completion percentage per
game, but he also owns the record for most passing touchdowns in playoff history, surpassing all
the greats before him. Secondly, Tom has the ability to make others around him play great. The
most intriguing stat comes from the 62 different players that caught a touchdown pass from Brady.

The Five Types Of Government In Ancient Greece
Ancient Greece consisted of several hundred polies or city states. Many of them were villages or
small towns, but there were two big and powerful Greek polies, Athens and Sparta.
Athens was a cultural and economic powerhouse, and the birthplace of democracy. Sparta was an
imperial city state, and had two kings (Brand, n.d.). (1)
There were five types of f government in Ancient Greece: monarchy, aristocracy, oligarchy, tyranny
and democracy.
Monarchy
Monarchy is undivided rule or absolute sovereignty by a single person (Merriam webster.com, n.d.,
1). (2)
In the Greek world monarchies were rare, and were distinguishable from a tyranny when the
monarch ruled in interest of his people. The most monarchies were Macedonia and Epeiros,
where the ruler shared power with assembly. Although Sparta also had a citizen assembly, and
two kings, but they were not absolute monarchs. They had great power when they led Spartan
army in the war, but in the peace, they were kept in check by Ephors who were elected by
assembly. The kings were also members of the Gerousia and were admitted from a young age, so
they must have had a significant advantage over the other members who couldn t join until they
were 60 (Cartwright, 2013). (3)
Aristocracy
Aristocracy is government by those considered to be the best or most able people in the state
(Dictionary.com, n.d., 3). (4)
Aristocracy as Plato and Aristotle invented is a governance by the best few who were superior
morally and

The Crossing Movie Analysis
Film Review: The Crossing
The movie starts off in the winter of 1776 just six months after the colonies declared
independence from Britain. The Continental Army had already suffered many losses against the
British forces and were being chased away towards the boundary between New Jersey and

Continental Army to have even fewer soldiers to fight. The only way they can get away from the
oncoming attacks from the British is to cross the Delaware River.

Of course there s no way to really know exactly how events transpired from back then but this
just portrays a likely scenario that could ve happened. My favorite thing about this movie is the
portrayal of Washington. Before watching the only thing I really knew about Washington was
that he was a great general but I didn t know what that really meant. This movie shows that by
seeing Washington s thought process when thinking of his plans of attack and it shows his care
for his men. One scene that was a small part really showed this. While his men were marching
for miles the Generals were all riding horses but Washington wanted to encourage his men to
keep going so part way through he got of his horse and marched alongside them. It was kind of
symbolic because he got off his high horse and lowered himself to his men which some would see
as him degrading himself but I saw that as him respecting his men and knowing that what they were

  • 2. Refugee Challenges For Refugees The current refugee scene is facing many complications. The challenges these individuals face while moving to a new country has encouraged us to focus our project on providing refugees with the assistance they need to succeed. Exploring different areas such as connections and services through an interview process has given us a better insight into what path to take to better accommodate refugees with the challenges in their current country. When conducting interviews our group kept in mind the practicality of the refugee s situation. Since for many individuals, this time in their lives is emotional we decided to reach out to the individuals that help refugees. When deciding who to contact for interviews we kept all our options open, communicating with immigration officers, program managers, University of Waterloo volunteers and teachers etc. First, we created a target list of many individuals that we were interested to hear from. Our first point of contact was email, with some participants they emailed their answers to us, however with others they preferred to communicate through the phone. In the end, all of the interviews we collected were completed through phone calls and emails. • 4. Analysis of Pink Floyd s Song, Mother Essay Analysis of Pink Floyd s Song, Mother Had Sigmund Freud lived 40 more years (to the overripe old age of 123), he would have been delighted to hear such a wonderful example of his life s psychoanlytic work embodied in the haunting lyrics of Mother. Or had Oedipus lived a few millennium longer than his fictional death he would have found an adversary in the youthful Pink, a young boy whose desire for maternal acceptance and love is arguably equal to the greatest mother centered protagonists in the history of literature. Contrary to the eye gouging antics of Oedipus or even the grandiose melodrama later in Floyd s album, Mother is relatively low key and emotionally subtle. So why would the band choose to illustrate such a serious stage of personal development with the nursery rhyme like style of the song s chorus? Before we get to that, the song s emotional and psychological message must first be examined. Similar to the music, the lyrics are as subtle as they are unsettling. Although the song takes a seemingly forthright form of question and answer, the psychological implications behind the lyrics are far from being simple and straightforward. Although the battling was over, the effects of World War II were still extent in the years following the atrocious fight. The destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the atomic bomb as well as the deaths of millions of Holocaust victims and soldiers were all too fresh in the global consciousness. Fears of nuclear warfare and continued fighting ran rampant through the post war world, instilling a sense of uncertainty in the generations of and following the war. Such fears are blatantly reflected by the first line of the song in which Pink asks his mother if they ll drop the bomb, referring to the apprehension of enemy retaliation. However, this line, as well as the majority of the lyrics, is open to a wide range of interpretation. Because of the psychological tendency to group people into two main categories (those like us and those apart from us, or the Other) coupled with the recent divisions of global powers in the war, one automatically assumes that the they Pink refers to is the ... • 6. The Problem Of The Public Education System To understand how to solve a problem, we must first understand what we are trying to fix. Throughout America s history parents, educators, and government officials have been debating what changes must be implemented for American children to receive every opportunity possible to gain an education that will prepare them for the future. However, these cries for reform are often rushed, and done for the sole purpose of pleasing the public, not to actually correct the problem. In my opinion, as a student myself, the problem is the public educationsystem as a whole. With America s diverse 50.1 million school children, America cannot stand as a nation under a single philosophy of teaching. The greatest threats in today s educational system are the rigid curriculum and the undying stress placed on testing. The impending problem in education is producing well balanced students mentally, spiritually, emotionally, physically and financially. The curriculum today deals more with academic studies and information than it does with being able to attain the success most aspire for. True success, as has been determined, is a direct result of one s character. This opinion is supported by Diane Ravitch s On How to Improve Our Schools , as she offers hope for preparing students for a useful life and having good character, and making sound decisions about their life in the future. One of the most pressing problems with our education system is this narrow focus of the curriculum. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We Don t Learn From Experience We don t learn from experience; we learn from reflecting on experience * John Dewey From my limited experience in interacting with others, I have found that dealing with people is an art. It is something I have to continuously work on and practice to improve. Out of the people I deal with every day, I believe older adults are the most challenging to deal with. We all have stories about our grandparents who dislike our partner who always tells them to start exercising or that they should quit smoking. Or how that grumpy old neighbour from next door keeps forgetting our name, although they have known us for over ten years. I think working with older adults is difficult, and there are a number of reasons why I find this to be the case. Here I shall deal with two. Albert Einstein once said, his biggest fear when he gets old is memory failure. What I find most challenging when dealing with older adults is that they can easily forget things. I have an 81 year old friend who unfortunately spends most of his time in hospitals. I try to visit him once a week, and most of the time I see him we usually have the same conversation. He asks the same questions, talks about the same topics and sometimes repeats the exact same stories and jokes from the week before. It saddens me to see him this way and I can see the frustration in the nurses and doctors who deal with him. • 8. Theme Of Prejudice In Pride And Prejudice In contrast, Mrs. Bennet views the same subject oppositely. A lady s imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment, (Austen 35). She wishes her daughter to become the matter of the society s interest, and bask all the external glory. The marriage with Mr. Darcy tickles Mrs. Bennet s thought into associating it her daughter s life with fame. There is no evidence of her concerning about Elizabeth s emotional assurance toward the marriage. Oh! My sweetest Lizzy! How rich and how great you will be! What pin money, what jewels, what carriages you will have!...Ten thousand a year! (Austen 535). In a period where a divorce was inconceivable, he had no choice but to deal with his own mistakes. Prejudice is a risky act that disables one s ability to distinguish the truth. True love arises when one eliminates the pride and prejudice. Throughout the novel, it was rare to pinpoint a couple, who married out of true love. Both males and females were in a constant suppression by the societal standards. The rare exception is Elizabeth and Darcy. Initially, neither of Elizabeth nor Darcy were moral. As the story progressed, they gradually dismissed one s ill habits pride and prejudice. In case of Elizabeth, she experienced a life changing moment, going inside out. At the ball, Elizabeth had a one dimensional judgment. Her interaction with Darcy was highly dependent on prejudice. It became furthermore intense as George Wickham s ill rumours supported her poor judgment skills. She was not able to be filter the information she percieved through Wickham in a deeper level. She only relied on the external elements, such as what she heard and saw. Darcy, on the other hand, was drowned in arrogance, and also believed in the reliability of prejudice. At their first meeting Darcy bluntly commented on Elizabeth s appearance.``She is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me; (Austen 13). Accordingly, Darcy s narcissism offended Elizabeth, causing her to develop a stronger feeling of hatred. • 10. The Pains Of Sleep By Robert Southey Essay The couplets encompass the odd tension of The Pains of Sleep : the ending is both over long, extending the natural length of the stanza by an additional two lines, and abrupt, answering the universal despair of wherefore fall on me? with an admittedly lacklustre response. The insistent repetition such , wherefore , love furthers the resounding resolution of the poem. Coleridge s draft of the poem in a letter to Robert Southey suggests that there is potential for movement beyond the declaration of the last line, for he affixes c c c c c onto the end of the line, and whilst a large portion of the draft is altered for its publication in 1816, this line remains untouched. Perhaps the clue is in one of the lines from The Pains of Sleep which is altered for its 1816 publication but exists in the draft version sent to Southey as well: The self created Hell within. (Letter to Robert Southey, September 12 1803.) The unfathomable Hell within. ( The Pains of Sleep , line 46.) The poem can be seen as a verbal translation of the self created Hell within : whilst the poem is structurally contained, the unfathomable interior world it describes, and the claustrophobic blending of reality and unreality, all contribute to it seeming incomplete upon interrogation. Coleridge rejects the universal question in favour of a personal answer because the poem cannot adequately make sense of the distorted images it contains. Unlike ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is because heroes give common people a figure to look up to and to try to mirror. Heroes also give something for people to root for. Heroes can also come in many different forms. Some are obvious and are told right from the start that they are a hero. Others play a less obvious role in the overall story and can often be misinterpreted for a villain. Heroes represent all the good people search for in life but they also have flaws to them as well making them more humanand more relatable to people. • 13. Impact Of Globalization On The Middle Of The Twentieth... Ever since the beginning of time, man was infatuated by visiting, seeing and interacting with other societies. Over time globalization, as it was termed, accelerated at an exponential rate. There were two rather recent major periods of globalization over the past five hundred years, one which began in the late fifteenth century and the other started in the middle of the twentieth century. Each of these new eras marked developments in advancements in communication, human rights, woman s rights, religiosity and philosophy, technology and lastly in economics. Europeans in the late fifteenth century were driven to explore. Shipping by sea was becoming popular. In the 1400s many European monarchs faced a problem, as they tried to import spices and silks from China and India, they were threatened by the Ottoman Empire who controlled Eastern Europeas well as the Venetian traders who economically ruled the Mediterranean Sea with high tariffs. To avoid being subservient to the Ottomans and Venice, the monarchies of Spainand Portugal, as well as other European countries began commissioning fleets of trading ships to find a route to Asia circumventing those locations. The Europeans discovered that by traveling below Africathrough the Cape of Good Hope they could reach Asia without much problems. After transforming E. coli with the GFP gene under the arabinose operon promoter, GFP expression was analyzed with and without arabinose. Induction was seen only in media with arabinose. To further study GFP protein and structure, an SDS Page or gel electrophoresis was conducted where proteins were charged to allow them to move in an electrical field in terms of their size. To further study the role of the arabinose operon in GFP expression an overnight culture was done where the plate was frozen and incubated to induce optimal protein folding. The GFP was then purified. Centrifugation, use of buffers, and a column was used to separate the GFP and bacterial cells. Introduction ... They are called competent cells because they are able to accept foreign DNA or plasmids. These cells such as E. coli are normally made competent by exposure to a rich calcium environment, where the mixture calcium chloride will be used in. Calcium chloride s positive charges will cancel out the negative charge of the plasmid and E. coli s cell wall weakening it, making it easy to pass. By subjecting these bacteria through sudden temperature changes or heat shock, a difference in pressure in the outside and the inside of the cell is made, that causes pores, through which the mobile supercoiled plasmid enters. After normalizing the cell temperature, its walls will heal. When the E. coli has now taken up the plasmid with GFP, it will be able to grow in agar plates with ampicillin, an ... So, because our society is constantly changing, evolving, and improving, it is absolutely necessary to keep up with the awareness of these new discoveries. One disorder that has existed for years, but has recently gained a lot of awareness is Autism. Autism is defined as a disorder in brain development that ultimately affects its victims everyday social interaction (Autismspeaks.org) . Signs and symptoms of Autism are usually shown in early childhood, and are easily detected by parents, if they are aware. However, if a parent or guardian notices any signs, they should take action immediately. How fast they take action in this situation could make or break the future of their child. Many symptoms have been connected to autism, and they are seen the best in these areas; behavior, social skills, and speech. A child s guardian can observe these symptoms in these areas to further increase the accuracy of the diagnosis. Background/ Context Terrorism is not a new occurrence; it is a common feature of Northern Irish history due to the conflict of The Troubles (MI5 Secret Services, 2016; Newburn, 2013; Wright, 2010). Traditional terrorism like that of the IRA (Irish Republican Army) in Northern Ireland predominantly occurred within local geographical parameters and against specific targets, it also operated in a fairly predictable nature (Morgan, 2004, Wright, 2010). In order to deal with the threat of Northern Irish terrorism, intrusive counter terrorism measures were introduced (Mythen, 2014; Wright, 2010). These were designed to deal with domestic and localised terrorism (Morgan, 2004; Mythen, 2014; Wright, 2010). In recent years, the terrorist threat has expanded beyond local parameters (Wright, 2010). Essay on Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler To learn history means to seek and find the forces which are the causes leading to those effects which we subsequently perceive as historical events. Adolf Hitler Growing up poor in a small town in Austria he had dreams of becoming famous; some would even say this dream soon became an obsession. This fascination soon engulfed his life, viewing his goals as a catalyst for a better life. After a brief stint in the army he pursued this dream and learned to use propaganda as a springboard to achieve a high ranking position in a political party. Adolf Hitler To fully understand the views expressed in this paper, it is necessary to understand Adolf Hitler and to provide context as to why Schwarzenegger is being compared to what many believe to be the embodiment of evil itself. This section of the paper will focus on the background of both states: California and Nazi Germany. In 1929 Germany was hit with the final blow to an already struggling nation; the Great Depression. Black Tuesday hit Germany in the midst of a naval blockade, extreme hyperinflation, and poverty for many Germans. Many historians believe that the blockade against Germany was the main reason for the rise of Nazism and consequently World War II. Regardless, Germany was in a time of crisis and in desperate need of salvation. In 2003, California, while not suffering from the same magnitude of crisis as pre Nazi Germany, was by no means experiencing prosperity. California was in the midst of an extreme unbalance: suffering from a massive debt, a governor who seemed unable to help, and increasing unemployment. Residents were exhausted of false promises made by former governors and looking for change. A recall was ordered on Governor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The usefulness of a liberal arts education has been widely debated recently on its viability and effectiveness in preparing students for accessible occupations and societal settings. Many feel a liberal artseducationis a perfect way to hone someone s skills in communication, critical thinking, and writing. Supporters of a liberal arts education find it more important to learn how to think rather than focus on a narrower education that trains for a specific skill or position. While others disagree with the general merits the liberal arts provide; rendering them inconsequential and inefficient as there is no specialized skill being learned. While it is true that the liberal arts does not teach one specific specialized skill, it cannot be denied that it does teach incalculable skills such as effective communication, analytical and critical thinking, and problem solving that is instrumental to being a well rounded, successful individual regardless of a person s chosen career path. • 31. Fake News As An Unreliable Form Of Satire The emergence and growing population of satire holds a strong position in the definition of modern journalism. The term satire has been replaced in the mainstream by the phrase fake news . This title implies an unreliable form of storytelling meant to translate to trickery, as this form of news can hold just as much power in today s media as legitimate news outlets. Regardless of it s popularity, the word fake should not be considered accurate, nor is it true to the real meaning. Satire typically aims to entertain an audience or grab its attention in a more interesting way, while news reports capture an event simply as it was. However, both forms of news may be guilty of carrying bias in their stories, one more obviously than the other. Fake news , still a form of journalism, carries a satirical form of political commentating that is still necessary in the world of reporting, just in a different format and done for a different purpose. The success and impact of satirical news stories rely on the consumer s ability to understand this form of irony. If this effect is achieved, a story can be just as beneficial as any other form of media. Popular satirical figure John Oliver agreed with this in reference to the use of irony in relation to the viewer, stating in an interview that his job required making jokes about the news and sometimes we need to research things deeply to understand them. However, the four seasons, in literature, can represent the mood and age throughout the text. For example, in the story, The Crucible the author used the season, fall, leading the reader to the interpretation that the storyline will have a gloomy and an eerie atmosphere. Therefore, when the author adds the type of weather or describes the climatein his or her story, they are trying to illustrate the mood. In the play, The Crucible, the author, Arthur Miller, used fall and springas an illustration of the setting. In Act I, the setting was placed in the spring; as a result of, everything was peaceful and fine. In Act III and IV, the author used fall to describe the mood. A creation myth is how the earth began and how humans first came to inhabit it. Also, we have reviewed the motifs of the myths. A motif is like a pattern of the similar situations happening throughout the myths. The three motifs I thought that were the most common were that most had a single creator, people were created from organic material, and the battles that went on between most of the gods. Most myths had a single creator In my opinion I think that if there were more than two creators then that would be too much power. A creator is the one that puts the earthtogether and forms the first humans on earth. Quite a few creation myth stories had only one god that created everything. She thinks of herself less and less as a part of humanity, stating a feeling of disconnect and alienness with other people and society at large being much more comfortable hunting with her hawk. Macdonald begins to associate more closely with the hawk than with people, believing herself to be turning into a hawk at some personal level, Hunting with the hawk took me to the very edge of being human. Macdonald fancies herself a changeling born of another world, the world of man being nothing but a place of discomfort and pain, she sees her only chance at a reprieve to return to a place of swaying trees and impenetrable fog where goshawks rule the sky, where wildness dwells and reigns supreme. In this sense Macdonald s hobby is far more than just a hobby to her, she at some level believes that this distance between her and other people, and her obsession with Mabel is all a part of her healing process, of some unspoken, unknowable ritual in which the wild will encapsulate all that she is and remove her from pain and ... • 43. A Short Note On The Uses And Functions Of A Server On... BIND in Linux BIND (Berkeley Internet name domain) is the most commonly used DNS (domain name system) server on the Internet, and it is the defacto standard on Linux and other Unix like operating systems. DNS is the name resolution (i.e., translation) system that permits users to locate computers on a network by using their domain name rather than their IP addresses. IP addresses, which form the basis of addressing on the Internet and most other networks, each can contain as many as 12 digits under the currently mainstream IPv4 addressing scheme (or as many as 32 hexadecimal digits under the next generation IPv6 addressing scheme). It can be difficult for humans to remember such addresses, but it is relatively easy for them to remember domain names, which typically use alphabetic characters and consist of words, abbreviations or acronyms. BIND provides an openly redistributable reference implementation of the major components of the DNS, including a DNS server (called named), a DNS resolver library and tools for verifying the proper operation of the DNS server. The resolver library is a collection of functions written in the C programming language that provides hostname to IP address and IP address to hostname lookup services.BIND was originally written at University of California at Berkeley (UCB) as a graduate student project under a grant from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration (DARPA). • 47. The Controversial Matter Of Abortion The highly controversial matter of abortion has been lurking in and out of many governmental discussions and debates. It has lasted for many decades and was highly practiced until the 1880s when laws and regulations were put into effect. Recently, this topic has been brought up once again and is focused on areas mainly the Southern and Western parts of the United States. Abortionis one of those topics where it can go either way; it s either pro life or pro choice. Both are two very different sides that are so sensitive it can reach out to many people on multiple levels of their emotional and mental state of mind, due to their many religious beliefs. Along with that, it is blown up and mixed in with the negativity of social media and that is a clear the problem and decisions become biased. It comes to these questions that makes me wonder about who should be involved? And why does there have to be only one right choice for abortion and not a neutral side? Or that why can t abortion simply be accepted by society after many decades of voting and reforming the same laws? The only thing that separates one side from the other side is the argument of the right to life , which is pro life. Although, the quantitative mechanical properties changes by freezing the samples, the qualitative behavior of the samples does not show any obvious changes in the toughness properties, which is a macro mechanical property. This study has a number of limitation that has to be considered. First of all, although the fresh tissue samples were collected and tested shortly after postmortem, the fresh tissue samples were dead and their mechanical properties could be different in comparison to live tissue samples in the body. Moreover, the sharpness and thickness of blades, the blades angles and the type of lubrication affect the fracture toughness values. In order to make the sharpness of blades steady state, the blades used in the experiments were preconditioned by passing through the discarded porcine tissue at least twenty times before the tests. GEM single edge 0.009 aluminum back razor blades were used. Different types of oils were tested and the one causing the lowest amount of friction were selected for the experiments. Furthermore, the consistency of the crack tip condition was assured by means of utilizing the cutting blade constraining the crack tip configuration. However, crack blunting and fiber pullouts cause toughening in the physiological conditions. The next step of this study could be to study the histological variations between the frozen and ... • 49. How The Media Is The Issue Of The 21st Century 1. The relationship of money to Free Speech is the issue of the 21st century. (Bill Moyers in Freedom of Speech for Sale). a) In the light of this quotation, explain both the advantages and dangers of media ownership concentrated in only a few mega corporations. Refer to specific readings/viewings to back up your thoughts. b) According to Robert McChesney ( Corporate Media the Threat to Democracy ), and the movie Free Speech for Sale, why is such a concentration of corporate ownership a threat to democracy ? (Hint: begin by defining democracy. ) c) Include in your discussion both what the function of the media should be in a democracy, and what the function of the media is in danger of becoming under the current system. Use specific examples from the readings and the viewings. The issue in the 21st century is the fact that corporations are the hand that guides the media and the government. When Viacom, Disney, and other large companies are also paying for the lobbying for the politicians, it is no longer a democracy for the people, by the people, but a corporatocracy. This is a term used to refer to an economic and political system under control by corporations and/or corporate interests. Only the people with deep pockets use their access to the media to overwhelm the general public. Sparta was an imperial city state, and had two kings (Brand, n.d.). (1) There were five types of f government in Ancient Greece: monarchy, aristocracy, oligarchy, tyranny and democracy. This movie shows that by seeing Washington s thought process when thinking of his plans of attack and it shows his care for his men. One scene that was a small part really showed this. While his men were marching for miles the Generals were all riding horses but Washington wanted to encourage his men to keep going so part way through he got of his horse and marched alongside them.
