- 1. 1346018 Yoo Heekyung Comparing Superstar K and Dancing 9 Recently, TV audition programs have become really popular. To follow this trend, broadcasting companies are competitively planning and televising audition programs which have similar formats. The start of this audition boom was singing audition program, Superstar K. This program gained tremendous popularity and winners of the final auditions were now became stars. After that, dancing audition program Dancing 9 debuted and was a hit. Even though both Superstar K and Dancing 9 are audition programs, Dancing 9 gives more touching lessons than Superstar K. Both Superstar K and Dancing 9 are included in the same genre, survival audition. Therefore they have three similar aspects. First, both programs make ordinary people stars. Not only the winners of Superstar K but also some participants who debuted as singers are gaining popularity these days. Similarly, the participants of Dancing 9 have become popular and are planning their own concert. Second, both programs are broadcasted on the same channel, M net. Superstar K and Dancing 9 are part of the M net’s survival audition program series, so they have more similar formats compared to other channel’s audition program. Finally, winners and dropouts are decided by the audience in both programs. Each participant’s score is total amount of judge’s score and audience’s voting, but the proportion of audience voting is very large so the audience opinion is really important in final result. Although there are lots of similarities, dancing 9 gives more touching lessons than Superstar K because of these differences in existence of emotional elements. First of all, dancing 9 participants compete as a team while Superstar K participants compete as an individual. Therefore, dancing 9 participants emphasize cooperation and friendship between team members, and also show the importance of leadership. On the contrary, Superstar K participants sometimes act selfishly to become a winner. Also, Dancing 9 judges personally teach each participant while Superstar K judges do not. This direct interaction between participants and judges makes Dancing 9 more touching than Superstar K. Finally, there is emotional bond between participants and judges in Dancing 9, but Superstar K does not have that. The judges of Dancing 9 sincerely feel sad and sometimes show tears when their team member is decided as a dropout. But in the same situation Superstar K judges maintain
- 2. rational and objective state. In short, existence of these three emotional elements in Dancing 9 makes it to give more touching lessons than Superstar K. Superstar K and Dancing 9 are similar because they both produced many stars, broadcasted on the same channel, and audience’s voting is crucial. However, Dancing 9 competes as a team, has personal teaching system, and has emotional bond between participants and judges while Superstar K do not have all these things. In conclusion, although Superstar K and Dancing 9 are both audition programs, these differences make Dancing 9 to gives more touching lessons than Superstar K. Because of these lessons, audience thinks Dancing 9 is more valuable program than Superstar K, and, in turn, people support this program. Furthermore, programs which have similar formats with Dancing 9 would more likely to be produced in the future, and these programs would make a successive success.
