ESSENTIAL

Qualifications and Experience:

    1. Completion of Certificate III in Library and Information Services or equivalent.

I have completed an Associate Degree of Science (Library) at Edith Cowan University in 2000

    2. Experience in a library environment.

I have had over 20 years of library experience in public libraries, TAFE and school libraries

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    1. Supportive of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.

        I am a non-practising Catholic – but I support the Catholic ethos

    2. Excellent client service skills with an ability to communicate professionally and effectively with
a diverse group of library staff, internal and external clients.

Throughout working with various libraries, strong communication, teamwork, prioritisation,
working under pressure and interpersonal skills have been essential. I have dealt with a wide
range of people, including parents, colleagues and students. Working directly with the public
has also involved working closely within the community and its projects. Ongoing projects I was
involved with included successfully promoting the library’s services – “Our Town” a wiki project
in conjunction with Gosford City Library.

    3. Ability to work effectively under pressure and contribute to rostered shifts at a busy
circulation and enquiries desk. Be available to work some evenings and weekends

I have worked weekends and evenings at Werrington, Richmond and Penrith TAFE campuses. I
enjoy busy shifts which include working on the circulation and enquires desk as they offer
great satisfaction in your job when you know that you have achieved the outcome that your
        client/patron

    4. Strong computing skills, including experience in automated library management systems,
       scholarly databases, and Microsoft Office

My career has been based on requiring computer skills in an array of different jobs. I am
versed in using a number of search engines to browse the Internet. Accessing databases are
another aspect of my work at the library to which I impart information to the borrower. I am
thoroughly versed in social media, finishing both web 2.0 courses set aside by the State
Library. And as previously mentioned, I was encouraged by my library co-ordinator and senior
management of council to twitter and blog for Wallerawang Branch Library since 2009 which
promoted the library, council and community locally and world-wide. See
www.wallerawanglibrary.blogspot.com My only weakness would be Excel as I haven’t had the
need to use it during my employment.
5. Demonstrated ability to successfully perform tasks such as data entry and the processing,
preparation and maintenance of library resources

I have been a data entry operator in my career as well as processed new library items.
Covering is not my forte as I have a hand tremor which is called Essential Tremor (in my case a
genetic predisposition). My other abilities are copy cataloguing and Inter-Library Loans.

   6. Ability to provide first level support for the use of equipment such as computers,
   photocopiers and printers

I can troubleshoot most errors on computers, photocopiers and printers unless it requires
   technical maintenance by professionals.

   DESIRABLE

   7. Relevant work experience in an academic or health library

Although I have had no experience in an academic or health library my overall experience in
libraries is a good foundation for learning new tasks.

   8. Knowledge of a range of scholarly information resources and the ability to use these
   resources effectively

Out of the databases available under Health at Notre Dame - I have only used Ebsco Health
and Informit Health Databases with the public libraries databases which have included
MasterFile Premier. Also I have used Google Scholar, Ebooks, Ejournals as well as
Subject Guides. I prefer Google as my search engine. Also Im interested in the Deep or
   Invisible Web search http://www.brightplanet.com/2012/07/deep-web-search-whats-
   possible/

9. Familiarity with the Horizon Library Management System

I have used the Horizon Library Management System back in 2003 at Blue Mountains Library
before leaving to take up a position with Lithgow which used Spydus.

10. Familiarity with Dewey and the National Library of Medicine Classification Schemes

I have not used the National Library of Medicine Classification Schemes – Dewey of course has
been the foundation of my library career.
