PLC Framework and Focus

Professional Learning Community Essentials

   - Teams are formed of teachers who are responsible for the same curricular subject area of student
       learning.
   - Teams meet for 45 minutes a week.
   - Each PLC meeting must be summarized including next steps and who was in attendance.
   - All PLC meetings must have a designated facilitator.
   - PLC meetings may be monitored by an administrator (through visits and/or review of
       minutes/action plans).

Questions That Guide Our Practice

   1. What do we want students to know, understand and be able to do?
   2. How will we know when they have learned it?
   3. What will we do when they have learned it and what will we do when they have not learned it?

Professional Learning Meeting Framework

   1. Teams Set Ground Rules and Develop Norms
   2. Teams set short term and long term goals to guide their work.

   3. Team meetings are focused on one of the following practices based on current evidence or goals:

       - Clarifying essential student learning
               o Deconstructing Standards
       - Developing common assessments
       - Analyzing evidence of student learning
               o Examining Data Protocols
       - Instructional practices that impact student learning
               o Interventions (teacher and team)
       - Examining student work
               o Rubrics
               o Rigor
               o Alignment

   4. A team action plan is created to address the next steps in the cycle that have been agreed upon by
the team. This includes steps to be taken outside the meeting, during classroom instruction, or
between meetings. Teachers work on strategies or next steps between each meeting.

   5. Next Meeting: Debrief the strategy, what worked, what did not work, focus on the next steps and
       continue the cycle.
