The EU-UNDP Support to Confidence Building Measures Programme has invested over €10 million since 2012 to promote cooperation across the Nistru River in Moldova. Through over 100 projects, the Programme has benefited thousands of people on both banks in areas of civil society development, business development, social infrastructure renovation, healthcare, and environmental protection. Key achievements include training over 1,300 journalists, establishing over 40 business partnerships across the river, and renovating schools, hospitals, roads, and water infrastructure to improve living conditions for tens of thousands of people. The overall goal is to build trust between communities on both sides of the Nistru through joint initiatives.

A professional foster care service for orphans has been created in the Transnistrian region. child protection professionals on both banks developed their capacities and created an online communication platform www.tdh-moldova.md . 40 children can play and practice sport in20 playrooms created on both banks. school students from vulnerable families in Speia village were trained in traditional handicraft in 3workshops endowed with special equipment. 140 teachers from both banks were trained and certified asprofessionalchesscoachesandarenow using the same training methods in teaching chess to 600youth in 20 schools on both banks. All these schools received the necessary supplies and teaching materials. persons with disabilities from both banks acquired skills for an independent life and at least 40of them have been helped to find a job. trees and bushes have been planted along both banks of the Nistru on a 10 km distance.2,500 vulnerable women have been trained to increase their family income and solve community issues. community leaders from both banks attended courses on energy efficiency and built model solar collectors for their households. 16 talented young people and professional musicians from both banks established artistic partnerships and participated in 12 joint concerts. young artists from both banks shared experience and jointly crafted 60of decorative art. pieces businesses on both banks undertook joint activities and received business management assistance.>200 >40partnerships established between business people on both banks of the Nistru. beginning entrepreneurs, company managers, local authority representatives and farmers improved their managerial skills at a Business School with branches in Tiraspol, Bender and Ribnita. 741 of the Business School beneficiaries are women. 48% business trainers including 8women upgraded their professional qualifications, contributing to the development of the local business consultancy market. 16 business managers from both banks adopted good practices of business development in a study visit to the Czech Republic and established 15partnerships with Czech counterparts. 12 farmers adopted business practices of growing organic products from Israeli counterparts. 14 A business consultancy unit was created in the town of Ribnita, with 8business consultants trained. employees from 120 small and mid-sized enterprises attended training courses, business forums and established cooperation relationships with colleagues from the other side of the Nistru River. >300 45 companies received assistance and specific advice to develop their business. business people set cooperation relations during study visits to Poland, Austria and Germany. 60 2 A feasibility study was conducted to create a microfinance fund in the Transnistrian region. 41 young entrepreneurs on both banks have received grants of up to along with individual15,000 consultancy for a period of months and assistance with buying10 equipment and raw materials needed to start up or develop businesses and create new jobs. A programme was created to provide training to the local public authorities on how to develop public-private partnerships. campaigns to promote business education were carried out in the Transnistrian region. school blogs started by young people to share their experiences with their peers from the other bank. 11 232 local public authority and NGO members from both banks have been trained to implement local development projects. >80 civil society members from both banks established two platforms to discuss social and economic issues, and identified ideas for joint projects to build confidence. 100

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT HEALTH CARE ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION RENOVATION OF SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE RENOVATION OF SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE 10 35 families from villages on both banks were connected to the “Hai la ţară” rural tourism network. 250 rural households will start providing tourism services, creating new jobs,30and people from rural communities are trained on how to develop tourism businesses. 60 A common ecological itinerary on the Nistru, a handbook on how to develop tourism businesses and a Nistru River travel guide are under way. 60 companies on both banks of the Nistru are assisted to improve their capacities of promoting goods on foreign markets, through participation in major fairs and exhibitions in European countries, and training on how to make the best use of the opportunities offered by the new trade 6 arrangement with the EU. objects of social infrastructure have been renovated. 5 other projects to improve infrastructure are in progress. people can now enjoy better living conditions. new jobs have been created. The overall renovation costs amount to 61,000 69 3,400,000 € students in the schools of Cocieri, Vadul lui Rascov,Butor,PuhaceniandSanatatcahave bettereducationconditions. 1,631 > 600 4 >16,500 >4,500 5,868 925 5,107 2,900 children enjoy better educationconditionsfollowing the renovation of kindergartens in the villages of Slobozia Dusca, Tibuleuca, Molovata Noua, Ternauca, Pirita and Cocieri. 830 young people can practice sports and participate in joint competitions following the renovation of sports schools in the villages of Chircaiesti and Parcani and the towns of Grigoriopol and Criuleni. people enjoy annually better treatment conditions following a complete renovation of the general surgery department at the Rezina District Hospital, the paediatrics department at the Criuleni District Hospital, the Health Center in Varnita and the Ribnita Town Hospital. people on both banks can develop trade traditions and friendly relations in the region as a result of a modern market built in Firladeni village. people in the villages of Hagimus, Talmaza and Cioburciu have access to safe water. 3,520 120 people enjoy better living conditions following the renovation of the sewerage system in Balabanesti and Holercani. people have access to an international route following the rehabilitation of the central road in Varnita. 195better roads in Vasilievca village. other people enjoy children with visual impairments have better better education conditions following the reconstruction of the specialized kindergarten in Tiraspol. people enjoy the benefits of modern and energy-saving street light installations covering a total of 21km in the villages of Ustia, Climautii de Jos and Cot. people will have better living conditions thanks to the new sanitation systems being developed in Causeni and Slobozia. women enjoy better care and safer delivery conditions due to the new modern equipment provided to the Ribnita Maternity Hospital. projects to improve the environmental situation on both banks of the Nistru are ongoing. KEY OBJECTIVES: The EU-UNDP Programme aims to build trust between the people on both banks of the Nistru River so that they cooperate more effectively and work together to improve their lives. To achieve this goal, the Programme is engaging local public authorities, civil society members, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders on both sides of the Nistru River in joint activities in five key areas: Business development Civil society development Renovation of social infrastructure Health care Environment protection The Programme has a total budget of €10.6 million, provided by the European Union (€9.5 million) and UNDP (€1.1 million).
