Methodology We have used a variety of methods which include, focus groups, uploading our work onto the internet and questions. Below, we are going to look into the advantages and disadvantages of getting both quantitative and qualitative data. Firstly, we organised a focus group on a Tuesday morning, gathering 5 individuals to gain feedback about there thoughts on our trailer. Pros Cons Secondly, we produced questionnaires for both the ancillary products giving them to 30 people. When we begun creating this we had to think about several rules. For instance, making sure all the questions can be answered in a short amount of time. Pros Cons Quick. Cheap. Quantitative data-easy to put into a graph which makes it easy to visualise. Small amount of information as they are closed questions. Social desirability bias. Long detailed answered. Secondary data-pick up on body language and facial expressions. Time consuming Social desirability bias (concerned about being seen as telling the truth than they were about being seen as immoral or foolish or anything that could be read into what they were actually saying) Lastly, we uploaded our film trailer onto various websites where we can receive feedback such as www.blogger.co.uk and www.youtube.co.uk . Pros Cons Gained feedback from people who weren't part of the process. Large amount of feedback Time consuming Qualitative data Qualitative data Quantitative data
In this section we are going to interview a focus group which we will be asking individuals different questions giving them chance for a discussion. Our focus group will consist of 5 people from our target audience. When this is complete we will upload it to our blog.
Planning for interview - Focus Group Focus group-shown below PowerPoint
We have created a questionnaire for both our ancillary products and our final piece. The reasons for this is because we will be able to find out in depth what our audience think, telling us both the positive and negatives of our work.
Questionnaire – Our film poster
Questionnaire results – Our film poster We have shown 30 people our final film poster and asked them to complete a questionnaire which will help us evaluate it. Below we are going to the findings from some of our questions below converting our findings into bar charts. Overall, what do you think of the poster? Unsuccessful What feature stands out for you in the poster? This was our last question as we have added a large amount of aspects trying to make our product successful. We are pleased with the results as 27 people answered ‘Successful’. We gave this questionnaire to people who said they were interested in thriller/horror therefore overall we are pleased with the final outcome. We asked this question as we would like to find out what people thought about certain aspects of our poster. We found out that people felt the image was immediately the first aspect that caught there eye. We feel that from this feedback that the image was very successful. Although several other options were also chosen by a few people therefore we feel that this poster has many different aspects that attract a large audience.
Questionnaire – Our film magazine
Questionnaire results – Our film magazine As a group we handed out several questions to individuals asking them to answer depending on the film magazine we had produced. We are going to collect all of the data which will help us to evaluate and produce our results into bar charts. Do you feel that the layout makes it easy to read? What do you think of the name FINAL CUT for the magazine title? This was one of the most important questions that we asked because without the audience being able to read it clearly it will not be successful. The results shown in the bar chart are very important and positive which will immediately attract a large number of buyers. This was our key question as it is possibly the first thing an audience will look at and recognise. After a vast amount of research we found this out therefore we took a long time thinking of a title and took into consideration a large amount of aspects. We are very pleased with the results as 27 people answered ‘Yes’. However, those who answered no were asked to state specific reasons. We found that people felt it was maybe similar to existing ones ,however it would not affect them buying the magazine.
For this section we are going to upload our finished film onto various website such as YouTube, our blog and the schools website. Our reasons for this are that we would like to gather feedback from viewers as we could learn a lot from our audience feedback.
YouTube: Firstly, we had to make a YouTube account which we would then upload our final film trailer. We are then planning on tracking this link as we are hoping to receive various feedback from a number of individuals helping us with our evaluation. New technology Blog: We have also decided to upload our film video onto our Blog. The reason for this is that we have decided that people can comment on this giving us a better opportunity to gather peoples thoughts and ideas.
In this section we are going to reflect on our best parts, however we are going to look at what we would do differently next time. We are also going to think about why audience feedback is such an important part in the process of making our product.
Evaluation Our audience feedback provided us with a better understanding of our product. We received several positive comments. A key comment was the fact that people felt the timing of the sound was very effective with the shots we used. We are proud of this part of our work because we feel that it was something we worked on for a long period of time, which we now feel has helped us to achieve a successful outcome. Another positive comment which a various amount of people commented on was the continuity throughout. We assumed they were mostly talking about the text used as the backgrounds and fonts used were the same on each. Another positive which we feel made the product a success was the amount of settings used, the audience feedback we received also agreed with this. We made sure we tried to film in a great deal of settings because when we first completed our research we realised the importance of this. However, there were also limitations. A weakness of our product is that we used a few slow shots which reduced the tension created from other shots. In parts of our film the audience felt that there was a great amount of tension created, yet this was ruined by the slow shots after. After re-watching the film, we realised that this was something that we could of worked on. If we had more time, we would re-shoot these shots changing it slightly. Audience feedback is an important part in all stages of the production process because the audience are individuals who will watch and look at the products making it successful.
