Evaluation of Final Performance
- 1. Evaluation of Final Performance On Thursday 23rd February we held a musical ‘Cell Block 33’ at our school, which was seen by a range of different ages, and in the audience there were around 50 people. This was the first time I ever performed a musical, and also the first time I performed anything to such a large audience. I was very pleased with the reaction from the audience, as many teachers that saw the performance did late take out time to email Mrs Saroya, and tell her how much they enjoyed the performance. This was really good to hear, because we knew that at the end all our hard work definitely paid off. There were many things that went really well in this performance, but there were also things that could have gone better, and I will fill you in on that too. Firstly, one of the things that went really well was the enthusiasm in the starting and ending song dance. This was something that we had been practicing a lot as we wanted the choreography to be perfect, and I can now proudly say that it was great. Also, with the dancing we wanted the expressions to be serious too, and go with the lyrics, and they definitely did. This was something that needed big improvement and we did get there in the end. As well as that the singing was good too. We all sang our hearts out, and added a lot of emotion in every single lyric, and that did make a huge difference to the song as a whole, and it gave it a lot more meaning, and made it more interesting to hear. It also made it seem realistic, and made it actually give the audience an insight as to how we feel as criminals in a prison. As far as my own acting was concerned I think I done the best I could, and I was proud of how I made myself feel and come across, as how I thought my character would feel. I feel that throughout the performance, I wasn’t out of character at any point. My character wasn’t one of the main characters, so I didn’t have many lines, but I was an inmate, so to stay in character was really important, as the audience was looking at everyone, not only the main characters, as there was a scene where there were only the inmates and not the main characters, so that’s when we really had to entertain the audience ourselves, by being in character, and I think I done a good job. I don’t feel as if there were any problems that I encountered whilst acting, as I had rehearsed my acting and the actions I was going to do very well, so I knew exactly what I had to do, inside out. So I didn’t give any issues room to come in, as I was very well prepared. Furthermore, one last thing that went really well, which was a problem in the previous performances was the aggressiveness of the inmates. This was something we got told to improve all the time, as we seemed to come across a bit too nice. We were able to get that a lot better, as we did work on that, by doing our scene over and over again, until we got the aggressiveness present. However, if we were to do this performance, the only thing I would improve would be the lighting, I think it could have been used a lot more to give a better effect, and we didn’t use it much at all, apart from dimming the light, and bringing it up again, to show the different scenes, and that didn’t give a really good effect, it was a bit too basic. So, I would definitely have played around with the lighting more if we had more time to do other things, than just rehearse our scenes, because I feel we gave too much attention to the acting, dancing and singing part of this musical, and didn’t get really imaginative with the lighting, so that would be my only thing that I would want to improve.
- 2. Overall, this performance was amazing, and turned out to be a lot better than anyone had expected it to be. I and the whole cast of ‘Cell Block 33’, were very pleased with how well this performance went. All our hard work paid off, and we were all very happy with everything. The main thing I gained through doing this performance would be confidence. I am someone who gets very nervous and insecure, but through this performance, I feel a lot more confident, and I believe in myself a lot more too, as I know now that I can do whatever I want, as this musical was a great success.
