Evaluation of the Preliminary Task. By Tara St. Louis
What have you learnt about planning? Firstly my group and I had to pick between anti-smoking or illegal downloading in order to carry out our task. We then came to a group agreement and chose anti-smoking. Moreover we all went away and thought of ideas that we thought would work well, the following week we came back with ideas and went through an pitching process. This was very successful as it helped us to pick the best idea and also in cooperate some of my peers ideas. In addition we also we also created a story board to help us set out our scenes, however our story board wasn’t very clear and was confusing to understand. For future references we should make our story board much better so it can be easier for the camera person to follow.  Also we didn’t really do much research on other films and what ideas they came up with, therefore next time we should do some background information as this could make our film better.  As a group we were very good at setting scenes. However we could of organised our actors more because it wasted a lot of time. But other then that we had the correct costumes and props that were needed.
What have you learnt about using equipment? I have learnt that when you use equipment such as the camera you have to be very delicate. Also I learnt that the camera can be very creative as long as you study all the shots. Moreover the camera was used as a video recorder and we used many camera shots in our video to carry out our task.  As a group we learnt that the sound on the camera wasn’t very clear because it picked up outside noise, so we used a micro phone and a beam pole to get the sound in which was actually useful to us. To ensure that the sound was being recorded we used the headphones as a feedback source.
What did you learn about editing? I found the editing process quite hard at first but after a while it became easier as I got taught how to use final cut and create black outs in certain parts of the video.  Also the editing process gave everyone a chance to put their own input into the video. However in the editing part you need to work at a steady pace otherwise you will fall behind and it becomes more time consuming which is not very good. Personally I think I could improve my editing skills in the main task so that the video comes out much better.
