- 1. Evaluation 4 What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
- 2. Focus Group Criticism In our evaluative screening of our trailer, one of the biggest issues was with our narrative. I do agree with this as we only really have the titles to explain our story. If we were to redo our trailer, I feel that including more dialogue between the victims would fix this issue because we could include some more key plot points.
- 3. Focus Group Praise In our focus group screening the special effect throat cut at the end was praised for what it was, but a real effect such as a blood pack may have looked better. We received roughly an 7 out of 10 for our trailer, which I am fairly happy with.
- 4. Improvements We filmed more shots that we edited in near the beginning of the trailer to try help convey the narrative, adding more close-ups of the phone messages with some text to try and show what’s going on, plus additional reaction shots of my face for emotion. I think these do help a little, but ideally I’d like to add more shots to develop the story.
- 5. Evaluation Screening I am fairly happy with our Evaluation Screening, we were expecting some criticism about our narrative which we did receive, but the response to our music and intertitles was mostly very positive. Even though our evaluation screening wasn’t shown to our target audience of older horror fans, we still got some encouraging comments.
- 6. Evaluation Criticism Our main criticisms were to do with the narrative. It confused people that one of our intertitles said “four DEPRESSED teenagers” but only 2 were present in the trailer. I have to agree that this is confusing, and we should have made it more obvious that 2 of the teenagers had already been killed. Also the title of our film is “Suicide Pact” and yet there is no suicide, we should have included the teenager's motive for going to the forest (they wanted to die) which I feel would have counteracted any missunderstanding.
- 7. Evaluation Praise We received a lot of praise for the throat cut clip at the end of the film. We were compimented on the music being in time with it, and also the special effect itself. I'm glad this was effective since doing the effect solely on the computer was quite ambitious.
