1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our thriller opening sequence ‘Lost Footsteps’ incorporates generic conventions of a thriller movie, due to the sound effects used as well as the
music, camera work and editing skills in the clip. In our thriller opening we use the black and white colour effect to create an impact on the audience
as it gets them to focus more on what you want them to see and is less distracting, where as if you had colour in the scene it will be bright and
colourful and they wouldn’t really pick up things that will be important later on in the clip. We have also used a number of camera angles in the
opening clip we have used the mid shot a number of times, the mid shot is good when the subject is speaking without to much emotion involved or
intense concentration. It also goes well when you are trying to deliver information to someone, in my case I will be trying to attract the audience in to
carry on watching the clip. We also used the close up camera angle a number of times as this creates and builds up a tense atmosphere it displays
most of the detail and allows you to see something which could be important or a clue to get the audience thinking. Over the shoulder shot is used as
it focuses the audience's attention on one actor at a time in a conversation, rather than on both. The final camera angle we used was the long
shot, this allows the audience to the setting of the scene and the environment so people know where it is set and what is in the background etc. All
the camera angles I have stated challenge the form and conventions of real media products as in thriller trailers that are about to hit the big screen
all of the camera angles I used and are in there for a purpose weather it be to have an impact on the audience, or to keep them at edge and maybe
even get them thinking about what is happening or what's going to happen. The sound used in our thriller opening sequence is also linked in with the
forms and conventions of real media products as the sound we used is a typical thriller convention of sound it has that slow paced piano and edgy
feeling to it. The music conveys conventions of a thriller genre as the music creates suspense which allows the audience to become intrigued as to
what will occur in the scene. We also used a number of ways to edit our clip we used the program adobe after affects to add colour, music, sounds
and to make everything right. All the above that I have mentioned all challenge the forms and conventions of real media products as these are just
some the steps you have to do whilst making a thriller opening sequence, all the big companies go through this when they are making a trailer to any
move. The use of conventions indicate what sub-genre our opening is as it has two people a stalker who is spying on them. Straight away from seeing
the clip you will know it is a thriller due to the concepts. Our thriller opening sequence was influenced by other thriller movies such as ‘Taken’ and
‘Hostage’ as it influenced us to come up with a story line of two girls walking through the park to get to school and a stalker who is watching them
through a bush and is planning to kidnap them. The title of our film is called ‘Lost Footsteps’, it is set in a park called South Norwood Lakes which is
situated in Crystal Palace/South Norwood. The costumes and props we used was to school uniform, shoes, sweets and a mobile phone we didn’t
need much and we didn’t go out and buy anything as at least one of the team had it. Title and font style was plain and simple but at the same time
was big and bold so people can read it and see it clearly it was in black background with white writing. The characters are introduced as calm school
girls but at the same time venerable and weak, where as on the other hand the stalker is a creep who has authority.
