In What Ways Does Your
   Media Product Use,
  Develop or Challenge
 Forms and Conventions
of Real Media Products?
Trailer.
We created our final film trailer "Dead End" based on the forms and
conventions of existing and professional media products. In the
planning stage of creating a trailer we did research into a variety of
trailers of different genres then researched further into a chosen
genre of horror, this allowing us to analyse in detail the different
camera angles, shots sounds and mise en scene that all creates to the
typical vibes horror movie's create to provoke audience reaction. So
when creating our trailer we knew to be specific and strict on
conventions that are typical to the horror genre even if they are used
a lot, and seen as clichés. We also made sure our final product was
based on existing media products codes and conventions by doing this
researching into a variety of trailers allowed us to make sure our
trailer looked realistic within the film industry and therefore
professional. However by not using a star cast it makes it harder with
the audience to either relate or gain the desire to watch the film.
Therefore it was further more important to follow the codes and
conventions so the audience would want to watch the film when it
  was released.

                    Why is 'Empire' chosen magazine?

                                                     Visual Appearence
                                                     Information and Stories
                                                     Star Front Cover
Before we choose what magazine to base our ancillary
product on we created a short survey to see what
magazine is most popular with our target audience (15-
  25) this allowed us to see what magazine is well known
and then further research into what reasons the
chosen magazine was most popular. From our research
it allowed us to see what was attracting their audience
and how we could use similar techniques to also make
our magazine as well known. We asked 25 people so it
gave broad opinions however we mostly asked people
aged between 15-19. The second results showed that
the target audience was most attracted to the poster
due to the interesting stories and the stars posed on
the front cover. Therefore from this research we
decided to choose an Empire structured magazine as
we believed it was the most professional and
  successful.
Compared..
To follow similar code and conventions of Empire
magazine we researched into many different front
covers. They all followed a similar structure with a bold
red masthead of the magazine name at the top, along
with the image positioned in the centre and also the
stories to catch the audiences eye. From our plan we
followed similar conventions however substituting the
title for our own movie magazine name and also the
image used so it fits to our magazine along with the
story headings. The bar code date, price and website
address is also featured on all empire magazines and
therefore we included it within our magazine. finally
we chose to keep our colour scheme limited to no
more than 5 colours so it doesn't look to overcrowded
  and unprofessional.
Poster.
Evaluation question 1
These were two existing posters that influenced
us in creating our final magazine design. We
again wanted to follow similar codes and
conventions of existing media productions of
successful horror magazine films as it would
appeal to our target audience much more.
These show that a eye catching image is the
most important factor to the magazine which
is then followed by the title, with a simple
  structure.
Evaluation question 1
By researching into existing posters we were
able to follow the codes and conventions of
the large image and the bold title with the
caption. We did have an issue with the image
as our actors are not Hollywood stars so it is
less likely to be popular however it is still
effective as it looks like a typical horror movie
magazine which would attract our target
  audience.
