Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms an conventions of real media products?
Thriller is a genre of literature that uses aspects such a as mysterious music, red herrings and tension to build up the key aspect of the thriller genre which is SUSPENSEProgress within the film is usually to do with danger. The dialogue in thrillers will never give away too much, they will not explain why certain things happen or reveal what is about to happen
In our thriller coursework, we use numerous conventions of the thriller genre. My thriller uses the conventions of real media products by using psychological factors that mess with the audience minds. They are so drawn in to believing that the Dan was going to murder the lady in the photograph and towards the end of the thriller, when the camera zooms out of the lady who is being assassinated, it appears to be myself. This could also be classed as a red herring as the audience is mislead as to what they think is going to happen next. As this is only the beginning of the thriller, it makes the audience want to watch on.
We got the idea for our thriller ‘Hitman’ which is why there are so may similarities in the two films. We were strongly influenced by this film because we thought that the whole idea somebody being assassinated was a brilliant idea and was really original especially with the effective twist to our film. Towards the end of our film, the use of fast edits builds up tension. The constant referrance to my hands struggling but seeing no face until the end of the film builds up suspense and the music gets louder as the tension is building up to emphasize that there is about to be a revelation.
The Hitman in our thriller ‘Dan’ images the man in the real film by his stance and the way he holds the gun so I could easily compare our thriller to the film ‘Hitman’.
Our thriller is original and different to most thrillers because we demonstrate that the times of changed since men had control over women. In our thriller, the woman has authority and is control as she points the gun at the Hitman. When she points the gun at him and gives him instructions, she is demonstrating that she is more powerful than him. The use of fade ins and fade outs in the to opening title sequences of ‘Hitman’ inspired us as we were really fond of the idea, so we decided to something similar.
