Use an outer glow on the
masthead
to make it stand out

 Placed the title over the
 actors head. Relates name
 to face

 Same centered pose

Use the plus symbol to show there's
more in the magazine
USE

- I have used an outer glow on my masthead which is also seen on the masthead of the
  “Empire” magazine cover.
- Placing the name or character name over the face of the main actor is something I
also used from Empires magazine as they have “The Dark Knight” over the top of
  Batmans’ head.
- I have also used a similar pose and positioning of the main actor. In the “Empire”
magazine Batman is placed in the center of the magazine with a stern look. This is
something I used in my own magazine by placing Dan in the center of the page with a
  mean look.
- I have also included the plus symbol in the bottom left of the magazine cover to show
there is more articles inside the magazine, this is the same positioning and style as
that of the “Empire” magazine cover.
- I have also placed a bold headline above the masthead just as it is seen in the
“Empire” front cover. This makes the front cover look a lot more appealing as it shows
  there is real content.
DEVELOP

Different color on the outer glow
                                         Also different font styles
                                         but both sharp

Both put the date inside masthead but
different positioning
                                        Text under actor name, however
I have used split colors over the fonts
as this resembles the theme of my trailer.

                                         Same positioning but my actor
                                         does not have a mask

                                         Use the same plus symbol
with text coming off it. Mine has smaller font .
DEVELOP

- I have used many features from the “Empire” cover, however I have changed some
of it so that it fits better with my genre.
- My masthead is of a similar font however mine is much sharper to resemble knives
which have a connotation of the thriller genre.
- I have used a text below the name of the main actor just like in “Empire” however I
have changed the color of the font on part of the text to show that the magazine is
related to my trailer. The trailer poses an idea that Dan has a split personality and
this is shown through the different colored fonts.
- I have positioned my main actor in the same place as Batman in “Empire” but my
actor doesn't’t have a mask as it is not part of his character in the trailer.
- I have used the date in the masthead just like “Empire” but I have put my date in
the start of the masthead rather than the middle.
CHALLENGE

                                             Completely different color scheme

I have a slug line whereas
                                                 “Empire” does not.

                                                 Placed multiple stories on the
right side of the cover, whereas
                                                 “Empire” only has one story
and that is on the left side

I have social networking links and a website link in the bottom left, not seen in “Empire”
CHALLENGE

- I have used a completely different color scheme because that is what fits in with my
genre as red carries connotations such as blood and danger.
- I have included a small box in the left corner which has a twitter link and also a website
for my magazine. This isn't seen on the “Empire” magazine and I did this to make the
magazine look realistic. It also shows a use of cross media technologies.
- I have placed my article stories on the right side of the magazine, whereas “Empire” has
them on the left side. Also I have multiple stories on the right side whereas “Empire”
  only uses one.
- Also featured on my magazine is a slug line which is not seen in the “Empire” magazine.
USE

                Actor names used

Full face in background

  Split colored texts

Logos used at bottom of the poster
USE

- I have used the name of the actor as this is conventionally seen in film posters.
- I have also used a split font color of red and white just like the other poster. However I
have done the split colors to emphasise my main actors split personality.
- Main actors face is used in the background. This shows who the main actor is in film
because they have a star appearence.
- I have used logos at the bottom of the poster just like the film ‘Red Lights’.
DEVELOP

Red glow, only mine is used over the
question mark rather than the whole
poster

   Split colors over texts, however
I have used it over most texts
rather than just the film name

Both used website however main is much more centerised
and also in a bright red.
DEVELOP

- I have used the split font color of red and white over the film name just like “Red
Lights” however I have used it over the actor name and slug line as well. This is because
it fits in with the characters split personality that is seen in the trailer.
- I have used a red outer glow around the question mark whereas “Red Lights” uses a red
glow on the front cover I only use it around the question mark to give it more of a
definition and to make it stand out.
- I have included the webpage along the bottom of the screen in a bright red font so it
stands out whereas the “Red Lights” poster has the website in a very faded font which
  is hard to see.
CHALLENGE

Name is at the top of the poster,
“Red Lights” is at the bottom

Large question mark over the main
actors face with segments of the
film inside

I have a slug line, “Red
  Lights” has no slug line

I have the steel tongs at the
bottom showing who did what
CHALLENGE

- I have put the name at the top of the poster rather than the bottom to make it stand
out more and look more important.
- I have used a large question mark over the face of the main actor with segments of the
trailer inside of it. This shows some events that occur in the film and tell a shorty story
to the audience. You main actors face is not fully shown to have an element of mystery.
- I have got a slug line underneath the title of the film to engage the audience and draw
them in. This is also seen in the “Red Lights” poster however it is not much of a slug line
as it is the highest placed text on the poster and is in a larger font than the film name.
- I have used the steel tongs font to show who has done what in the making of the trailer.
It is in a lighter font than everything else so it is not distracting. This is not seen on the
  “Red Lights” poster.
USE

Establishing shot over the town/city

Two shots between males , one face is
not seen while the other is talking.
 Always distance between them

Low angle of victim to make them
 look week and vulnerable
USE

Logos at the beginning of the trailer to
show who it was made by

Black and white used to
show flash backs

Images showing what
he has done or
where he has been in
the past
USE

- I have used an establishing shot of the town the film takes place just like “Law Abiding
Citizen” has shown an establishing shot of the city the film takes place in.
- I used two shots in the trailer between the two men, making sure that the shot was an
over the shoulder shot so the main characters face was hidden. Leaves some mystery
and also shows the distance between the characters
- High angles used on the victims to show their vulnerability and weakness compared to
the killer or main actor. In both shots the killer can not be seen even though we know
    who it is.
- I have used the logo at the beginning of the trailer which is also conventionally seen in
other film trailers to show who it was produced and distributed by.
- I have used a black and white color over the top of flashbacks just to show the events
are not currently happening. Black and white carries flashback connotations and is
    instantly recognized by the audience.
- We did a shot of images of the main actors past, such as what they did or where they
were. This was seen in the film “memento "where the main actor puts pictures on a
wall to remember his past. Similarly Dan places pictures on the table to remember his
    past.
DEVELOP

Name of the film at the end, however I
have used split colors as this relates to the
film.

 Chase scenes, however Dan always
runs alone as he is a lone fugitive.

Scenes where main actor is
confused/struggling however I have
used a medium shot rather than a
close up.
DEVELOP

- I have shown the name of my film at the end of the trailer which is seen in most trailers.
However I have split the colors used in name of the film to show the relation between the
main actor’s split personality and the actual trailer.
- Chase scenes are commonly seen in thriller films, however Dan is running alone from
the police whereas in “Law Abiding Citizen” it is the police running away from the “Bad
    Guy”.
- Scenes where the main actor is in distress is seen in both “Law Abiding Citizen” and my
trailer. However instead of using close ups to show this, I have instead used a medium
shot to show the main actors body language. Also using a medium shot allows me to
show the location of the character as this can carry connotations of what is happening.
For example Dan is seen in an Alleyway and this suggests to the audience that he is in a
    rough way.
CHALLENGE

I used a fuzzy screen when the
camera turns on and off. I
have not seen this in any
            other trailers which is why
there are no examples. I did
this for a realistic effect and it
            also shocks the audience
when they see it, as they will
            be expecting to see other
            scene

My partner created a image that
            simulates a real camera
            dashboard. There is a battery,
recording button and date. This is
not generally seen in film trailers
and is a unique feature that
makes the trailer look much more
            authentic.
CHALLENGE

Used a canted angle to show the
             main actors panic. Canted angles
are very rarely seen in trailers and
this was more of an original idea
             than anything else. We also
             purposely filmed this so Dans’
reflection was in the mirror. This
             angle makes the audience feel
             Dans’ confusion

            Used a internet word montage
which is rarely seen in trailers. This
also gives the audience an insight
into the illness that the main actor
            has.
CHALLENGE

The “Law Abiding Citizen” Trailer used titles for exaggeration and for the names of
actors. This is something I did not do as I did not feel that the titles were necessary
although maybe using the actor name title would have been a good thing to do.
