Throughout his coursework, the student has used various software like Photoshop, Final Cut Express, and iMovie to complete assignments. He learned about different file types and how to change them to be compatible with different programs. The student improved his file management skills by organizing his work into folders. During research and planning, he used software like InDesign, PowerPoint, and Movie Maker. For construction, he relied mainly on Photoshop, After Effects, and Final Cut Express to create promotional materials. He also used online tools and iMovie for evaluation.

- 2. Software Throughout all stages of my coursework i have used various types of software both on the college Mac’s as well as on my own Macbook at home. I used software such as photoshop, final cut express and iMovie 10, these were used throughout the construction stages the most.

File Types Since the beginning i have learnt about the different file types needed for different software: JPEG .MOV Quicktime Conversion TIFF WMV Many times throughout my coursework i have had to change the file type of a image or a video because it was a unsupported file type for the media platform i was trying to upload it to. Due to this i now understand how to to change a images file type through photoshop and a videos through quicktime player or final cut.

File Management From the beginning of my advanced portfolio i have learnt a lot about file management as in my first year of college my files for my media work were very unorganised and i found it hard to keep a track of where i had saved images and my work. In light of this i decided to keep all of my media work in one file on my Mac at college, i organised a file on the local drive which is where my scratch disks were set to as well as where all other important work was saved, for less important work such as downloaded images off the internet i saved these in my own area on the computer. Also when i was saving things to my area i began to give files correct names rather than leaving them as unrecognisable file names. I found it easier to find my work like this and it allowed me to become more organised when using these files with both software and online tools.

Research & Planning Throughout the research and planning stages i used software continuously in order to illustrate my work in a dynamic way: InDesign- Skills Development Microsoft Powerpoint- Genre Research Windows Movie Maker- Reflection Videos & Research into Promotional Packages (Posters & Merchandise) Grab Tool- Screen grabs of Facebook & Twitter (Shortcuts learnt) Microsoft Word- Call sheets & Recce of Location Doddle Pro App- Online Call Sheet Final Cut Express- Animatic • Photo Booth- Audience feedback videos This software allowed me to complete my research and planning to a high standard and also to present it in a new way.
- 6. Construction Throughout the construction stage i have used a wider variety of software, this is because my media package was mainly constructed on 3 types of software. Photoshop- First draft of production company logos and inter titles, first drafts of print products (without images), assembling final print products, changing file types. After Effects- Production company logos and the film title animation Final Cut Express- Construction of trailer Microsoft Publisher- Analysis of trailer to professional products Throughout the construction stage i have used 3 main softwares, Photoshop, Final Cut Express and After Effects, all of these softwares have helped me create a media promotional package to a high standard and i have also acquired many new skills from using these softwares so frequently.

Evaluation For the evaluation stage of my advanced portfolio i have used mainly online tools, however i did use: iMovie 10- For question 1, part 1 As i have never used iMovie before it took me a while to get used to the new tools so i often had to watch a few YouTube tutorials on how to do certain things, however it was similar to using Final Cut in some aspects so i was able to transfer my knowledge and skills on Final Cut to iMovie.
- 8. What have i learnt? There are so many different software available to use for different things. It takes a while to get used to new software and you often need a lot of patience. New software can be frustrating to learn about but it is often helpful once you get to grips with it. Many skills can be transferred from certain software to others as sometimes they have similar operating systems. File management is essential to keeping your work space tidy and organised. It is good to have basic knowledge of many different softwares and know what each one is best to be used for. Its often handy to have basic knowledge of different file types and which media platforms accept different file types. Finally, software is an excellent and complicated thing, it is exciting to learn about and there is often a lot to learn but once you understand the basics it is often easy to use.
