History Of Evolution
Charles Darwin came up with the theory of Natural selection. Darwin believed that life on earth came from evolution. From 1831-1836 Darwin traveled with a British expedition around the world where he made interesting discoveries, and found fossils of extinct animals that showed relation to some of our animals today (Most of what he found in the Galapagos islands). Charles Darwin Charles Darwin Continued…
Galapagos Island Discoveries While Darwin was on his journey with the British expedition, they stopped on the Galapagos island. There, he made discoveries that had yet to been discovered. He Found giant tortoises that were so different from one each other. Two different types of iguanas, and different types of birds.
Evolution Evolution is the process where something evolves throughout the years into something different, but yet sometimes alike.
Alfred Russel Wallace Alfred Russel Wallace was interested in collected plants and animals. He joined the expedition to the Amazon in 1848. He was one of the many that believed that species descend from other species because of the success in their environments. He also wrote a paper ( On the Tendency of Varieties to Depart Indefinitely From the Original Type ) which he sent to Charles Darwin in 1858.
Jean-Baptiste Lamarck was the first scientist to put together his beliefs into a system that explained evolution process. He believed that physical characteristics changed to needs, use, and environmental change (acquired characteristics). Jean-Baptiste Lamark
Natural Selection
Natural Selection Natural selection is when the environment changes a species The traits that are better keep getting passed down and the bad traits start dying out. Natural selection relates to evolution because the animals lost some traits and gained some and they changed during time
Changes Passed The changes are passed in population The adults with better traits live to pass on their traits The ones that aren't well suited in their environment die out
Mutations Some mutations are good The animals that have good mutations can go in their new environment The mutants that are better suited in their environment live longer. The diversity come from mutants because they look different and live different
Variations The variation is the different types of one species there are The animals survive because some parts of the variations are better suited in different places
Vestigial structure the whale has a bone that it doesn’t use The bone that most mammals have to walk It is said that whales used to walk on land
Fossils The fossils are animals that died They are on sedimentary socks The bones are shown from those animals
Bones The bones from former primates The skulls show haw big the animal was and how they walked
DNA The DNA Has been found So it means that there were animals that we evolved from
Primate Evolution
What makes a primate? All primates are mammals, and are all built on mammal characteristics. Living Primates : Microcebus, Mirza, Cheirogaleus, Allocebus, Phaner, Lemur, Petterus, Hapalemur, Varecia, Lepilemur, Avahi, Propithecus, Indri, Daubentonia, Loris, Nycticebus, Perodicticus, Arctocebus, Galago, Otolemur, Euoticus, Tarsius, Callithrix, Cebuella, Saguinus, Leontopithecus, Callimico, Cebus, Aotus, Callicebus, Samiri, Pithecia, Cacajao, Chiropotes, Alouatta, Ateles, Brachyteles, Lagothrix, Macaca, Cercocebus, Papio, Mandrillus, Theropithecus, Cercopithecus, Miopithecus, Allenopithecus, Erythrocebus, Colobus, Procolobus, Pygathrix, Simias, Nasalis, Prebytis, Hylobates, Pongo, Pan, Gorilla, Homo.
Hominids What is a hominid? Anything that has the ability to grab things with there hands, and are able to walk on two feet. The only living hominids today are Humans, Gorillas, and orangutans.
