Nearly 14.5 million Americans have had a history stint with some type of cancer and were still alive
on January 1, 2014(American Cancer Society, 2016). There will be an estimated 1,685,210 new cancer
cases and 595, 590 deaths in 2016 attibuted to caner in the U.S. (American Cancer Society,2016 )
Those astonishing numbers do not even account for the cancer patients family and friends whose lives
are also affected this horrific disease. In order to get a glimpse of what a cancer patient has to go
though, I decided to read Stuart Scott s memoir, Every Day I Fight, by Larry Platt. He is an ESPN

He had to have an emergency appendectomy, consequently when they removed his appendix he was
diagnosed Appendiceal Cancer. The first thing that came to his mind when he was told he had cancer
was, Platt (2015) I m going to die, and I won t be here for my daughters (p. 156). That pity party
ended quickly, because he knew that he had to be strong for his daughters. They were his inspiration to
fight. After the initial shock wore off, he began to scour the Internet in search of information on his
rare form of caner. The more that he read the stories and looked at the statistics, the more this disease
ate at him. From that day forth he vowed to never go searching for information again. He asked his
doctors never to tell him what stage he had, how long they estimated he would live, or what
percentage chance he had to beat cancer. Stuart wanted to continue to live his life the way he has
always done. He was going to give 110% effort to beat this disease, just like he did with everything

When you die, it does not mean you lose to caner, you beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and

Education plays a significant role in contributing to Auckland s perception and engagement with
Waitangi Day. Within the wider context of New Zealand, Auckland is the nation s most populous city
with a wide demographic of multicultural individuals. With significant external immigration to the

Film Analysis 1: The Power of Vertigo I remember watching Vertigo for the first time back when I
was still very young, but at the time, I didn t really understand anything about the movie. As I watched
it again as I grew older, I learned to appreciate how great this movie really is and the special narrative
style that the movie presented. Vertigo, to me, was always known as Alfred Hitchcock s best film.
Most of Hitchcock s well known films like Psycho or North by Northwest have unique title sequences
that were an important part of their respective themes and narratives. For Vertigo s title sequence, it
starts with an extreme close up of a woman s lips, which suggests the foreshadowing of Judy s role in
the movie. The intro then shifts to the person s eyes, while the eyes, referencing the idea of looking
and watching like what Scottie will do for the most part of the movie. Visual motifs were presented
during this sequence such as the spinning spiral patters. These were motifs that are carried through
into the narrative.

mythology, a person viewed as evil has a counter part that is viewed as good. For example, Thor, the
Norse god of weather/thunder was considered to be a good guy. However, his brother Loki, the Norse
god of mischief, was considered to be a bad guy. Thor had to help keep his brother in line throughout
their childhood because if he did not, Loki would get in trouble. Loki would go around playing tricks
on the other gods and their children. He loved making himself laugh as well as making others laugh.
However, sometimes he pushed things too far. In Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Macbeth, Banquo and
Macbeth share some qualities with Thor and Loki. Thor tried to help Loki just like Banquo tries to
help Macbeth. Banquo is a person that is seen as a leader because of his level headedness, just like
Thor was a leader among the Norse gods. Like Loki, Macbeth pushes things too far. He commits
multiple murders and lies through his teeth countless times. He even has his friend Banquo killed.

doings. This may make some readers think that Macbeth will be that much closer to getting away with
what he has done, but this is false. Since Banquo s death, all Macbeth can think about is how he had
his friend murdered. He even sees Banquo s ghost and has a little fit in front of a lot of people. Seeing
Banquo s ghost has made Macbeth paranoid and question everything he does. He is not as confident as
he used to be. It is obvious that Banquo still has an impact on Macbeth even after he has died because
of the fact that Macbeth cannot stop thinking about Banquo s
