Lady Chatterley s Lover, written by DH. Lawrence was first published in 1928. The novel follows
around the protagonist of the story, Lady Constance Chatterley. The story is about how this woman,
who is trapped in a loveless and almost sterile marriage, finds emotional and physical love with the
gameskeeper of her husband s estate. As a story about the relationships between men and women, I
find this book a very nice read, but with Lawrence also using this novel as a way to show his readers
the evils of machines and capitalism, at times I find it lacking. Lawrence has two main themes in this

This does not work for me in this novel because he never tells or shows the whole aspect. By this, I
mean he never shows how all view industry. He does not show how the workers themselves feel about
how they live. I believe that he tries to show in this novel how he felt about mining towns and those
who work there and expects the reader to also despise industry as a whole. The first theme works in
this novel because Lawrence shows very different aspects of what some of the characters feel on
relationships. He shows the good and the bad and lets the reader draw the conclusion that Lady
Connie and Mellors relationship is a true one. He does not do this for the industry vs. nature theme.
He only shows the negative and forces the reader to choose the nature side of the theme. I agree with
the words of Pablo Neruda, who said Lawrence s work impressed me because of the poetic quality and
certain vital magnetism focused on the hidden relationships between human beings. (93) This novel
does give great insight to the working of relationships between men and women. Lawrence does a
convincing job of showing the reader what it takes to have fulfillment from a relationship and what a

Transformational Leadership and Transactional Theories
The domain of leadership theory and research has had many conceptualizations proposed over the last
few years (Avolio Bass, 2003). These conceptualizations seem to have generated recent interest in the
distinction among transformational, transactional, and laissez faire leadership research (Bass, 1990).
Yukl (1998) noted that transformational leaders get followers to do as they desire by transforming
them or changing the followers themselves. According to Barlow, Jordan, and Hendrix (2003), a
transformational leader generates an image that awakens trust from subordinates and develops
relationships that enable subordinates to move toward goal attainment using their knowledge, skills,
and material resources to accomplish that end. Unlike transformational leaders, transactional leaders
pursue a cost benefit exchange approach that does not change subordinates and uses portion or
organizational resources to meet subordinates needs in return for contracted needs rendered by the
subordinates (Bass, 1990). Although these forms might appear diametrically opposed, most theorists
agree with Bass that they are not mutually exclusive. While transformational, transactional, and
passive/avoidant leadership are conceptually distinct, the same individuals on a continuum might

His response was to arrest the leading Bolsheviks, however some went into exile just as Lenin did as
he escaped to Finland. In further retaliation, Kerensky appointed General Kornilov as head of the
army with the task of suppressing the left. Kornilov decided that it was time to deal with the
revolutionaries and to establish a strong government in Russia. Also Kornilov wanted the Tsar back in
power which contradicted what Kerensky wanted. Therefore it leads me to believe that this was poor
judgement by Kerensky and it shows how he was indirectly linked to him. Kornilov ordered the
Cossacks to march on Petrograd. Kerensky panicked and asked the Bolsheviks for help. The
Bolsheviks agreed and so Kerensky armed the Bolshevik red guards with rifles. However, Kornilov s
troops never arrived in Petrograd as the railway workers stopped the trains so the Cossacks couldn t
get to Petrograd. It is quite impossible for me to betray Russia into the hands of her ancient enemy, the
German race, and to turn the Russian people into German slaves. Here, Kornilov described Russia s
contribution in worldWar I as anobligation to prevent the Russian people from being confined by
Germany. Although the Cossacks couldn t get to Petrograd, the red guards kept the rifles which were
given to them by Kerensky and they would later be used in the October revolution. Consequently, it is
clear that Kerensky had a key role in 1917, holding important government positions and ultimately
losing the support of both the left and the right, allowing the Bolsheviks to take power. Not only was
