- 2. INTRODUCTION The CEO of Mesosphere, Inc., which he founded in 2013, Florian “Flo” Leibert manages the Internet start-up’s recruiting, financing, and business operations. In addition to his numerous achievements with Mesosphere, Florian Leibert created Chronos while working with Airbnb. A fault-tolerant scheduler that runs as part of the open-source Apache Mesos software, Chronos is a replacement for the Cron command used in computing to tell a server or operating system the specific time for execution of a task. It supports a range of custom executors in Mesos, in addition to the default command executor. Further, Chronos is capable of interaction with systems like Hadoop, even in cases where the Mesos agents related to task execution don’t have Hadoop installed. Chronos uses asynchronous callbacks to provide notifications of task completion or failure, in addition to being capable of transferring and executing files on remote machines running in the background. Chronos’ advantages over Chron include the ability to support long dependency chains, increased flexibility in task scheduling, and the ability to define tasks based on the completion of previous tasks.
