The scalp consists of 5 layers: skin, connective tissue, aponeurosis, loose connective tissue, and pericranium. The skin contains hair follicles, sweat glands, and sebaceous glands. Below the skin lies thick, dense connective tissue anchored to the skin and pericranium. The aponeurosis is the galea aponeurotica layer. Loose connective tissue allows movement over the skull. The pericranium is the periosteum lining the skull.
