The theme: recycling. Gripe and End Goal Achieve a sustainable and environmental friendly waste management system based on the recycling in Qatar Promote awareness on single-use items. Preserve the environment in Qatar and limit waste pollution. Preserve our sea life. Enforce an effective policy that ensures cleanliness of Qatar through upcoming generations. Design Thinking: 5 Say What does your end user group say about waste? • The public in general recognizes the value of recycling and garbage management. • Some do not know of any recycling facilities • Guidelines for recycling are unclear • Lack of motivation, as majority of people can afford buying rather than reusing Recycling is a popular activity that many people engage in at home. There are no plastic recycling facilities so they do not recycle plastic. Different people have different recycling habits; some recycle every day while others do it less frequently. Proposed Plan to Reduce Plastic Consumption and Promote Recycling Design Thinking:7 Define and Ideate Plastic Bottle Charge: Introduce a 0.25 euro charge on plastic water bottles, with a return refund system. Grocery Store Rewards for Recycling: Install weighing machines in stores, connected to their apps for rewards, including coupons and loyalty points Raising Awareness: Mandate recycling facilities in grocery stores and run educational campaigns and TV ads on recycling. Include recycling education in school curriculums and promote it on Qatari TV channels. Grocery Store App Integration: Add recycling company contact info to store apps for convenient home pickups. Final Plan: Partner with the Ministry of Environment to create a recycling truck for home pickups, rewarding residents based on recyclable weight.
