What the City is doing and why?
                Community Planning
                •Ensure livable
                 neighborhoods
                •Preserve community
                 character
                •Build neighborhood
                 connections
                •Prioritize City investments
                 in services and
                 infrastructure
                •Provide opportunities to
                 shape the community’s
                 future
Why the Benson Hill Community?
•Benson Hill is home to
 more than 20,000 people
 and 400 businesses
•The 2007 annexation area
 had been underserved in
 King County
  • Fewer parks
  • Fewer community areas
  • Less maintenance (roads,
    storm drains, etc.)
Where is the Benson Hill Community?
•Boundaries were created in 2009
•Includes many neighborhoods:
  • Benson • Royal Hills
  • Cascade • Spring Glen
  • Chinquapin • Tiffany Park
  • Eagle Ridge • Vantage Glen
  • Falcon Ridge • Victoria Hills
  • Huntington • Woodbury
    Heights Lane
  • Renton Park • & Surrounding
  • Rolling Hills Areas
Who is the Benson Hill Community?

                      We are racially and
                      ethnically diverse
                      with a growing
                      minority population
Who is the Benson Hill Community?

                      About a quarter of
                      us were born
                      outside the US

                      About 7% of our
                      neighbors are in
                      homes where no
                      one speaks English
Who is the Benson Hill Community?

                      Although part of
                      our community is
                      aging… there are a
                      lot of young
                      families in the
                      neighborhood as
                      well
Who is the Benson Hill Community?

                      A growing number
                      of our neighbors
                      are living in poverty
