This document discusses the use of field shake table tests as an effective tool to demonstrate seismic strengthening building technologies. Shake tables allow scaled models of traditional and improved houses to be tested side by side under increasing levels of simulated earthquake shaking. This helps increase awareness, training, and confidence in improved construction techniques among local artisans, homeowners, and communities. By visually showing the collapse of traditional designs versus the stability of strengthened models, field shake table tests can encourage wider adoption of low-cost seismic upgrading solutions and more proactive disaster risk reduction policies.
