Filter 2:

Visualize notes with emojis
filterize
What is this filter doing?
filterize
Assign emojis to your notes, so you can classify them
at a glance. You can e.g.:
visualize categories your notes belong to

contacts 👤, emails ✉, appointments 📅 etc.
visualize states of your to-dos

open ⬜, overdue ❗⬜, done ✅
filterize
We show you now 3 different options to classify
your notes:
1. visualize by tags
2. visualize the source your note is coming from
3. visualize your to-dos
Visualize by tags
Let’s start by marking a note with an emoji,
that has a special tag, e.g. a contact tag.

So we want to add an 👤 to all contact
notes.
filterize
Visualize by tags
filterize
All you need is a filter with
one condition:
tag is contact
and one action:
add 👤 as title prefix.
It’s more likely for you, if the emoji is at the end of your
title?
No big deal, add 👤 as title suffix.
Good to know: You can add as much
different emojis as you want to every
note.
filterize
Visualize your tags
Visualize the source of your note
Probably you have notes with content from e.g.
other services or websites. So you maybe use
the Evernote webclipper or send emails in your
Evernote to store them?
Then it is helpful to see the sources at a look.
We will show you now one filter to assign an 🌐
to all notes created by Evernote webclipper.
filterize
This is necessary to build
that filter:
Choose note source as
condition and select
Webclipper (last entry).
Then you have to decide
whether you want the 🌐

as title prefix or title suffix.
Apply what you like most.
Visualize the source of your notes
filterize
Visualize your to-dos
Do you use reminders in Evernote for your to-dos, but
sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of things?

Then you will love this automation!

Distinguish your task in:

⬜ open

❗⬜ overdue

✅ done
and let Filterize automatically add respective emojis.
filterize
You need 4 basic filters to realize it!
Filter 1: Set ⬜ for open tasks
We want to set a ⬜ if the task is not done yet. So
you need to know, how to negate a condition.

Pick one you want to negate, e.g. reminder, and
activate Negate condition.
Visualize your to-dos
filterize
Now all the rest is no longer
dark magic:
You need a filter, that process all
notes, which have reminders,
but are not done yet.
Those notes should become an
⬜ as title prefix.
filterize
Visualize your to-dos
Filter 2: Set❗for overdue reminders

Now it’s helpful, that it is allowed to use as many
different emojis per title as you want. And you can
add them with as many filters as you want.

To mark our note as overdue, we now just add an❗with
a second filter.
filterize
Visualize your to-dos
So if notes are

overdue and

not done yet
add an❗as title prefix.

filterize
Visualize your to-dos
Filter 3: Remove❗
If you reset an overdue reminder, the note
must be set back to ⬜open as well.
So the only thing that needs to happen, is
the removal of❗.
filterize
Visualize your to-dos
Now you need to know a new condition: replace title parts.
You can search for signs, single words or word groups and
replace it by something new.
If want to delete title parts, then enter nothing at replace
with.
Good to know: Default setting is
case-sensitivity. So match case
or disable this setting!
filterize
Visualize your to-dos
This filter process notes, if
they have

reminders, which are

not overdue

and remove the❗.
filterize
Visualize your to-dos
Filter 4: Mark to-do as done ✅

The last filter will mark notes as done, if the
reminder is done.
Attend, that you not just set a new emoji, you also
have to remove❗and ⬜.
filterize
Visualize your to-dos
So if a note is getting marked as
done, our filter has to do 3
actions:
1. Remove❗from title.

2. Remove ⬜ from title.

3. Add ✅ as prefix.
filterize
Visualize your to-dos
At the end we can extend our first
filter, which sets an ⬜ to all open
tasks.
Assume, you mistakenly mark a note
as done. For the moment the emoji
would not be corrected automatically.

That’s why we add a second action to
our first filter. If there is a ✅, we
remove it from title.
Problem solved!
filterize
Visualize your to-dos
With those 4 basic filters you see
at first glance

what is really urgent,

what you generally should do and

what you have already completed.
And you have automated your
first process!
A little more effort, but a great
impact!
