Personal Health History How I got my Name There is no particular reason to why I was named Alan. I’m guessing my parents were just happy to have a boy after having 3 daughters. My last name, Truong, is considered to be a Vietnamese last name. Although, everyone in our family speaks a Chinese dialect called Chaozhou ( This language is supposed to be really old so it is rare and also, I haven’t seen anyone else speak it). Meaning : Alan means noble, harmony, and fair. Origin : Celtic Date of Birth: January 18, 1995 Place of Birth : I happened to be born right here in San Diego. When I was born, we were living in an very old house but we moved right away. Unfortunately, I don’t remember anything about being in that house.

History - Health According to my parents, we do not have any recurring Health issues. We are a relatively healthy family and most the unfortunate deaths that occur, are due to old age. Surprisingly with my mom’s huge side of the family, one would think there would be any health concern; luckily there isn’t. -To America My parents traveled over to America during the time of the Vietnam war. They arrived here to escape the tragedies and keep themselves safe from danger. There were also benefits for coming to America as well. They could obtain a better job, life and education over here in the United States.

Spotlight : Aunt Cindy How old are you? 83 How much sleep do you get? As much as I need or want. I can sleep whenever. Do you like to exercise at all? I don’t like exercising, but I go out for a short walk everyday. What do eat for breakfast? Oatmeal or cereal. Do you like to eat healthy things? At my age, I don’t think I have a choice. Although, when I was younger, I was pretty healthy. What do you do when you get up? I read the newspaper, go for a short walk, and eat breakfast. What do you do in your free time? I read books, garden, and babysit some kids. Do you take your daily vitamins? Yup, I don’t like having to swallow them though. What kind of beverages do you drink? I drink tea, orange juice, apple juice and water. Have you ever dieted? I have tried to stay healthier, but not exactly dieting. Have you ever been underweight? Nah, I stayed about average weight my whole life. Do you cook at your house? Only if they need me to. What is your favorite fruit? Pear Do you enjoy eating salads? Yes, I enjoy eating vegetables.

Spotlight: Aunt Cindy How many fruit do you eat a day? About 2 Do you think you are in shape for your age? I believe I am pretty fit compared to most other people in their 80’s. Do you enjoy life as it is right now? Well, I don’t think anyone would enjoy being 83. Although, I do enjoy life, so yes. As a child, did you play sports? Yes, I played tennis and all these old games you don’t know about. What do you eat for Lunch or Dinner? I usually eat a bowl of rice or some noodles. Have you ever considered dieting? No, I am comfortable with the way I am and don’t feel the need to. Do you sleep a lot during the day? Yes. I don’t have much to do anymore so sleeping relaxes me. Do you watch television a lot? Not so much. I’m not much of a technology person. What time do you usually sleep at? 9:30 Do you eat meats? Yes, although I prefer vegetables so I eat only a substantial amount. Younger, did you eat fast food? Almost never. As I said, I was a healthy person and can’t stand fast food.

I believe that 20 hours of homework is way too much. This is based on the fact that I’m usually more stressed nowadays and out of my comfort zone. Also, I haven’t had much free time to do things that I enjoy lately. I’ve been having to do lots of essays which most of the time are on the same day of a big test. When I’m in a rush mode, I don’t learn very well and end up forgetting the concept in a day or two. -Sleep Per Night Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Total 7 7 7 6 11 38 My average is about 7.6, although that is due to the fact that it is the weekend after Friday. I don’t get enough sleep on weekdays. To get the desired amount of sleep, I need to find a way to manage my time better. I could possibly make a list where I could check assignments off as I complete them. Television : For TV, it depends if it is acceptable or not. If there is a show on that I like but a test the next day, it isn’t acceptable because I end up watching it and losing sleep time. Although for the days that I watch for 1 hour, I believe that is pretty acceptable. Phone: I usually don’t talk on the phone very much. I prefer instant messengers like msn and if I do talk on the phone, it usually isn’t for more than an hour. Computer: The amount of time on the computer depends on what type of homework I have. Usually, I spend 1 hour each day on it without having to do essays or assignments that require research. A hour each day seems acceptable to me.

Health Triangle Age 15 Social 85 Physical 95 Mental and Emotional 79 I think I am a very active person. I enjoy playing sports like basketball and football very much. I’m more of a sprinter than a long distance runner though. However, I’m not a good swimmer at all. Socially, I am shy when I first meet someone. Once I get to know somebody, I am not shy at all and I have plenty of friends that I am happy with. Mentally and emotional is where I struggle. Academically, I am a good student and get good grades. Although, I lately haven’t been getting enough sleep, which might cause problems for me during the day. Social and Emotional Health -Hobbies/Talents/Sports: Drawing, basketball, football, sprinting, designing things, listening to music ( I listen to English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese music) -Pets: None =[ - Travel: My favorite trip was during the Summer of 2007. My second-oldest sister got accepted into Berkeley, so we drove all 6 of us (my 3 sisters and parents) in a van up to San Francisco. It was fun because we were all together and got to experience what it was like in a new environment. It is a community service club and I work as the Secretary of Hours which just organizes the hours of each person using Excel.

Personal Crest Alan John Truong Be less shy around people that I have just met Loyal, Honest, Kind I would say first off, win the lottery and win millions of dollars. Then, use that money to travel across the world and do anything I want . Getting a basketball hoop to play with Having a son after getting 3 daughters Not exactly an achievement, more like a freak thing, but in 7 th grade, field was closed because it was raining and they let us play on the basketball courts. Some friends and I were just punting and catching a football and when I punted it from 3 basketball courts down, it went perfectly through a basket.

This song represents me because I am usually a very calm individual. You would almost never see me in a bad mood unless I am stressed. This song also talks about virtue and morals. I believe that I have some good principles and rules that I pertain to, while doing things I think are right.

Future Aspirations The person that I chose who has made a positive impact in my life is my grandma. She is important to me because she was the one who took care of me while my parents were at work, when I was very young. I’m not saying my parents didn’t contribute, but when they were gone, she taught me how to be a better person. Where do I see myself in…. 3 years – In three years, I would be a Senior at Westview. It’s about the time for filling applications to college and the time to take things easier. I would also know how to drive by now. 5 years – In five years, I would be a Sophomore in College. Hopefully, I can get into a good school. I would be either living at a dorm or living at home if it is a school near my home , like UCSD. 10 years – In ten years, I would have a job. I’m not sure what exactly I want to be so far, though. I maybe of had gotten my own place by now and dating/married. If I could accomplish one thing… If I could accomplish one thing in my life, it would be to get a successful job so I can support a family and have a happy life. Dear Grandma, I wanted to tell you how much you meant to me when I was a child, and even now. When I was home with my parents at work, and sisters too busy with homework, you were the one that accompanied me. You were the one who taught me valuable lessons and principles as well. When I did something bad by accident, you stayed calm and didn’t get mad at me, but helped me from making the same mistake over again. I am thankful for all you did and love you. You did your role as a grandma the best you could, and I appreciate that greatly. I wish you were still here for these last 5 years. Rest In Peace, Alan

Media Awareness In my opinion, the media has affected probably everyone one of us somehow. It controls what one does, what one wears, and what one enjoys listening to. For example, the media promotes and kind of makes you listen to catchy songs that have very poor lyrics. Although they get stuck in your head, they are usually about drugs, money, sex, and alcohol. This is because it is what is “in” these days. The catchiness of songs overpowers what a song is supposed to be. Also what is “in”, contributes to the clothing one wears. The media uses magazines and what not to display what everyone has to wear. A lot of people buy into it, and wear it until the next “in” thing comes up, and then say what they just wore is “out”. I however, don’t really pay attention to what the media tells me about clothing, therefore I’m not as affected. The media can also interrupt some of the hobbies you like to do. If it makes fun of an certain activity, society acts the same way to it. Either way, if it is fun to you, you should do it anyways. In conclusion, the media forces you to become someone you are not.
