Involves relating some aspect of a ELL’s
 daily life to their experience as an immigrant
Relay this information in the form of a
 presentation to peers and possibly
 community members
  Presentation should include formal and
   informal communication
FOR EXAMPLE…
Journal Project
Students write a journal of their everyday
 experiences over an extended period of time
 in informal English (BICS)
Allow students to read their own journal to
 look at overarching themes in their
 experiences
Compile these into a presentation to show to
 family, friends, peers, and community as a
 class
BENEFITS
Community based, not nationwide
Students are able to express themselves
  and their experiences
Practice in BICS and CALP
Practice in different forms of
  communication (Hymes’ competencies)
Build bridges across social gaps that may
  have been created by flaws in the
  program
