

What is Ecology?



Ecology is the branch of science that examines the relationship organisms have with each other and their environment. (National
Geographic). It is the study of the Earth and its phenomena.





It is the branch of biology that deals with the relations of organisms to one another and their physical surroundings.

Ecology is the science that studies living things and their relationship with their habitat.

What is Ecological Footprint?





It is a measure of human demand on the Earth’s ecosystems. It is a standardized measure of demand for natural capital that may
be contrasted with the planet’s ecological capacity to regenerate.
It is a measure that people take on every day including, consumerism, governments, and factories.

What is the importance of both concepts today?





The importance of these concepts is that without them we couldn’t know how each population interacts with other population.
To take conscience of nature and also know how we can reduce our human impact.

What is the usefulness of Ecology as a science?





Studying ecology is very important, because a simple change in the environment can have a profound effect on all living things; the
destruction of one species can mean the death of many others. We cannot continue to harm our environment due to a poor
understanding of ecology. So the more we know the better.
That it helps us to know what we can do to stop our human impact.

What factors influence it?


Everything around us like weather, consumption, global warming, and over population.

Activity3_StrategicPlan_Beehive#1 The Beehive will connect to propose the different methods to promote the Electricity Saving Light Bulbs in
their respective schools. We spoke for a while and arrived to various methods that could lead to raise awareness and hopefully make some
people change the bulbs in their own homes.



We are going get 3 cardboard boxes to use them as trashcans and write on them: Plastic bottles, aluminum, and food waste. We are going to
put them in different places of the school to try to collect as many as possible. At the end of the project, we will take them to a recycling place

Well the plan is, we are going to make is about giving trees to people in
change of things that can be recycled like: * Paper* Cardboard* Metal cans*
Glass* PET bottles* Wraps. We will collect recycled materials in exchange
people will receive a tree to plant in their homes.
We are going to get the trees from a green house.



Use solar energy instead of nuclear, using solar panels to get energy for light or hot water.



Use and buy local things, to save all the CO2 wasted in the transportation.



Stop wasting the non-renewable resources.



Try to avoid the plastic bags and if we have plastic bags then reuse them, don´t throw them away.



Use less electronic devices, cellphone, tablet, and computers.



Ride a bus instead of your car.



Only purchase clothes, gadgets when you really need them, not want them.



People eat a lot of processed foods, try eating produce from a local market.



Change from regular bulb (incandescent) to compact light (fluorescent) save 75% energy and will generate 75% less CO2
emissions.



Save energy. Turn off the lights when no one is in a room and unplug all electrical appliances when they are not in use.



Separate garbage. Put two garbage cans in your home, one for organic waste and one for non-organic.



Recycle, Reduce and Reuse. Reuse glass, aluminum, plastic, paper and cardboard to save energy required to produce
these products again.



Shut off the water. In the shower while you are soaping, shaving or brushing your teeth and in the kitchen when you are
washing the dishes. Place a bucket in the shower, you can use the collected water in toilets, on floors and to clean your
house.
Action Plans
Students were asked to create realistic action plans and commit to it.



The majority of students chose to plant trees.



Students had the opportunity to have a profesional environmental speaker give an
informational speech in their class



A portion of students chose to start recycling at home and in school.



Students changed their light bulbs to energy saving light bulbs.



Students used a variety of methods to promote reducing their carbon footprint, including
door to door public awareness, creating posters, collecting recycling, and writing and
singing about the environment.

One group decided to write a song and play
it in their school, to increase awareness.
