The document summarizes the work of the New Tools Team which is developing new methods for asteroid shape modeling. Specifically, the team is working to improve the speed and automation of two parts of the existing modeling process: 1) the manual grid search of spin axis orientations, and 2) the generation of 3D shape models. The team is applying Bayesian optimization to accelerate the spin axis search and deep generative models to quickly generate potential 3D shapes from radar images. They have generated a large synthetic dataset of asteroid shapes and radar images to train their deep learning models. Initial results show their Bayesian optimization approach finds spin axis orientations an order of magnitude faster than previous manual methods.
