INTRODUCTION
It comprises of EMBEDDED SYSTEMS and BIOMETRCS
An Embedded system is a multi-agent system and computer system designed for
specific control Functions.
Embedded systems contain processing cores that are either microcontrollers or
digital signal processors (DSP)
Biometrics studies commonly include fingerprint, face, iris, voice, signature, and
hand geometry recognition and verification
Among these available biometric traits finger, Print proves to be one of the best
traits
This provides better security and protection to our documents.

What is a Fingerprint?
A fingerprint is the feature pattern
of one finger .
 It is an impression of the friction
ridges and furrows on all parts of a
finger.
 Among the variety of minutia
types reported in literatures, two are
mostly significant and in heavy
usage:
1.Ridge ending - the abrupt end of a
ridge
2.Ridge bifurcation - a single ridge
that divides into two ridges

ARDUINO UNO MICROCONTROLLER
The Arduino Uno is a
microcontroller board based on the
ATmega328 (datasheet).
It has 14 digital input/output pins , 6
analog inputs, a USB connection, a
power jack, and a reset button.
Simply connect it to a computer
with a USB cable or power it with a
AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get
started.
 The Uno is the latest in a series of
USB Arduino boards, and the
reference model for the Arduino
platform.
The Various properties of this
microcontroller are:-
Operating voltage:- 5V
Input voltage:- 7-12V
Digital I/O Pins:- 14 (of which 6 provide
PWM output)
Analog Input Pins:- 6
DC Current per I/O Pin:- 40 mA
DC Current for 3.3V Pin:- 50 mA
Flash Memory:- 32 KB (ATmega328) of
which 0.5 KB used by boot loader
SRAM:- 2 KB (ATmega328)
EEPROM:- 1 KB (ATmega328)
Clock Speed:- 16 MHz

Fingerprint Based Security System

The power pins are as follows:
 VIN : The input voltage to the Arduino board when it's using an
external power source .
 5V:This pin outputs a regulated 5V from the regulator on the board.
The board can be supplied with power either from the DC power jack (7 -
12V), the USB connector (5V), or the VIN pin of the board (7-12V).
 3V: A 3.3 volt supply generated by the on-board regulator. Maximum
current draw is 50 mA.
 GND: Ground pins.

FINGERPRINT MODULE
This is a finger print sensor module
with TTL UART interface for direct
connections to microcontroller UART or
to PC through MAX232 / USB-Serial
adapter.
The user can store the finger print
data in the module and can configure it
in 1:1 or 1: N mode for identifying the
person.
The FP module can directly interface
with 3v3 or 5v Microcontroller.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE
 Fingerprint processing includes two parts:
o fingerprint enrollment and
ofingerprint matching (the matching can be 1:1 or 1:N).
When enrolling, user needs to enter the finger two times.
The system will process the two time finger images, generate a template of the
finger based on processing results and store the template.
When matching, user enters the finger through optical sensor and system will
generate a template of the finger and compare it with templates of the finger
library.
For 1:1 matching, system will compare the live finger with specific template
designated in the Module;
 For 1:N matching, or searching, system will search the whole finger library for the
matching finger. In both circumstances, system will return the matching result,
success or failure.

BUZZER
A buzzer or beeper is an audio signaling device, which may be mechanical,
electromechanical.
Typical uses of buzzers and beepers include alarm devices, timers, and
confirmation of user input such as a mouse click or keystroke.
Electromechanical
Early devices were based on an electromechanical system identical to
an electric bell without the metal gong.
Mechanical
A joy buzzer is an example of a purely mechanical buzzer. They require drivers.

DC MOTOR
A DC motor is any of a class of
rotary electrical machines that
converts direct current electrical
energy into mechanical energy.
A DC motor (Direct Current
motor) is the most common type
of motor. DC motors normally
have just two leads, one positive
and one negative. If you connect
these two leads directly to a
battery, the motor will rotate. If
you switch the leads, the motor
will rotate in the opposite
direction.

a) FRR
 FRR stands for False Rejection Rate.
 FRR is the instance at which the security
system fails to identify the authorized
person.
 It is also referred as Type-I Error.
 Arises due to
1. Occurrence of dust on the scanner can
result in misreading the Fingerprint and
hence gives false rejection of the
authorized user.
2. Unaligned placement of fingerprint.
FRR/FAR IN SECURITY

b) FAR
 FAR stands for False Acceptance Rate.
 FAR is the instance at which the security
system will incorrectly accept the
unauthorized person.
 It is the Type-II error.
 Considered as most serious error among the
biometric security.
 Arises due to:-
1. System failure
2. Cyber Attack

OUR ATTEMPT

WORKING
To operate this project first we have to operate this project
in “Settings mode or Admin mode”.
In this mode we have to enter data into the database of finger
print sensor, for this we have to take impressions of fingerprints
of that person whom we want to give access to our security
system.
This can be done once or whenever a new entry has to be added
in the system.
Then this project has to be used in “Normal mode or Search
mode”.
In this mode the system compares the fingerprint input received
at its optical plate with the previously stored fingerprint from its
flash memory. If the entry matches with the memory then it gives
out ok signal along with the identity number of that person.

But if the entry does not match with the memory then it
gives out error signal.
The output received from fingerprint sensor is given to the
microcontroller.
Microcontroller then compares these output data.
Function of microcontroller is to turn on the respective
device depending upon the input received.
In case of OK signal from fingerprint module, microcontroller
turns on a Motor. However if the error output is received
then it turns on the Buzzer.

 PC access and internet security (Computer network security, Internet
transaction, Laptop security, Application level security)
 Physical area security(Military, Government, Banking, voting etc.)
 Employee record check
 Mobile phones: network access & theft protection
 Mobile financial transaction: Credit cards & ATM cards.
 Voter registration and identification.
 Border control via passport verification by using biological
parameters.
 Population census by using biometrics.
 Driver’s license and professional ID card verification with biometric
identifier
APPLICATIONS

FUTURE SCOPE
 Fingerprint based locks are revolutionary locking systems that open
with just a touch of authorized user’s finger, their increased use in
various locking applications can lead to “KEYLESS WORLD”.
 Fingerprint mismatch regarded as an attempt of illegal access, can
reveal possible theft.
 Performance can be increased in terms of speed and memory.
 A speaking voice alarm can be used to indicate unauthorized person .
 The system can be made to communicate with modems and mobile
phones
