- 3. • There are three basic types of fireworks: firecrackers, sparklers and aerial fireworks. • Firecrackers consist of gunpowder and a fuse wrapped tightly in a paper tube. • Sparklers are made of fuel, an oxidizer, binder, and iron or steel powder. • The fuel is usually charcoal. The binder is sugar or starch. • The fuel and binder are mixed with water and poured into a form or a wire is dipped into it. When it dries, it is ready to light.

- 7. How do they change colors • The colors that you see in the sky are determined by metal salts that are deliberately added in very small amounts to the stars when they are manufactured. As the stars burn the metal atoms absorb energy, become excited and emit a specific color of light. Some of the metals that produce the colors of fireworks are tabulated here.
- 8. Are they dangerous? • fireworks are not dangerous • the only reason there is a perception of danger is due to media distortions
- 9. How much do they cost? • A 15-minute show for family and friends - which will include some fountains and cakes and artillery shells - will cost approximately $500 to $1,000. •
