The document summarizes the staffing and instrumentation of the Fundamental Instrument Unit (FIU) of the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON). The FIU has over 15 scientists and associates who balance their time between field work, lab work, and office work. The FIU operates instrumentation at 60 terrestrial sites across the US that includes towers, soil arrays, and 37 sensor assemblies to measure meteorology, radiation, air quality, fluxes of gases and energy, soils, and more across various spatial and temporal scales. A Mobile Deployment Platform allows for additional campaign-based measurements. Preliminary Level 1 data from some core sites is now available on the NEON data portal.
