• #6: It’s Flexible: FlexPodalso can flex based on workload. FlexPod traditionally has been intended to be a shared infrastructure platform that allows resources to be scaled while maintaining the same design and implementations.The FlexPod sizing guide provided details on how to optimally support different uses. For instance, an entry level configuration is good for Microsoft applications such as Exchange or SharePoint. Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) workloads such as VMware View require a configuration with more compute and higher IOPS. Devand test environments need more computing and memory resources but less data storage than others. Whereas data protection and backup use requires the maximum storage capacity while still maintaining optimal I/O performance across the backup infrastructure.Flexible in terms of scale: FlexPod architecture scales to support most enterprise environments.FlexPod reference architectures can be sized for small enterprises or very larger enterprises. The architecture is consistent from small to large with the same capabilities, technology and management tools. A company can scale a small environment to a very large environment without ever forklifting technology, changing management tools or methodologies. Reference designs come with sizing tools to make this easy and risk-free.FlexPod is the most efficient converged infrastructure solution, thanks to the efficiencies at each level of the stack. NetApp storage comes with native deduplication, thin provisioning, and compression, as well as other features such as space-efficient Snapshot copies and FlexClone volumes, which drastically increase storage data efficiency. This will be an Ethernet only design with the Nexus 9K switch. FlexPod Datacenter with Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) brings together Cisco’s ACI technology and FlexPod. ACI is Cisco’s approach to the industry’s march towards SDN (software defined networking). Cisco ACI introduces 2 new components that will be added to the FlexPod architecture. (1) The Nexus 9000 Top of Rack and Modular switches running NX-OS Fabric Mode and the (2) Cisco Application Profile Infrastructure Controller (APIC). With ACI added to the FlexPod architecture, DC and storage network provisioning can be performed by applying a network profile to the APIC which manages the network switches, network security and L4-7 network services. In addition with ACI, end to end application infrastructure provisioning can be performed across the compute level (UCS), the network (Nexus 9k network) and storage (CDOT). This solution provide manual configuration of FlexPod ACI.
