- 2. SETTING Limitless is set in a very busy city – it’s crowded, there is a familiarity within this. However, Flight Plan is based in a foreign country – we are shown this by the sign in the background – this automatically connotes distance and almost creates a barrier with the protagonist.
- 3. REPRESENTATION The obvious difference in the protagonist within each film is that in Flight Plan the protagonist is female, and in Limitless the protagonist is male. How each is represented is very different. Eddie (Limitless), is seen as driven for success, he is also a risk taker – taking and becoming hooked by an IQ boosting drug. In Flight Plan, the female protagonist of Kyle is unstable which is a stereotypical representation from being emotionally withdrawn after the death of her husband.
- 4. HOW WE ARE INTRODUCED In Limitless, we immediately connect to Eddie, the protagonist, as the use of a voice over speaks to us. Eddie intrigues the audience with what he says - sharing hints of information that we then use to guess the event that might of just occurred. However, in Flight Plan we don’t feel this connection, as the protagonist, Kyle, is cold. We do not have a voice over, so the audience is left in the dark, not knowing what is about to happen; this can immediately change the film for the audience, making them uninterested and bored.
