FORENSIC SCIENCE
What is forensic science?
The science used by the courts to support criminal
or civil investigations.
It could include:
Ballistics
DNA profiling
Fingerprint analysis
Forensic toxicology
Autopsy
Forensic document
examination
Start of Forensic Science
Forensic science presentation
Scenario
• A telephone call reported that thieves entered
a house.
• When the police arrive on the scene, the
house is in shambles. Clothes are scattered all
around the room, lamps are overturned and
there's no sign of the thieves.
• The police asked the forensic scientist to help.
One of the detectives picks up a glass. On its
side is a smudged, thumbprint.
• He takes it down to the lab, where it's
analysed and matched to a recorded set of
prints.

Making your own finger prints:
• Find two separate pieces of paper.
• Use the ink pad given by the teacher to make
fingerprints.
• Use your thumb to make a finger print on
paper 1 and then on paper 2.
• Write down name and surname on paper 1.
DO NOT write anything on the other sheet.
• Mix papers and give to another group.
Teeth Impressions:
Scenario
• The police received a report of a robbery and a
murder which took place in a shop, earlier in
the day. The forensic scientists noticed the
following:
• The body temperature of the victim was 32
degrees Celsius.
• Long strands of hair were found on the body
of the victim.
• No fingerprints were found.
• The dead body of the shop owner and a bite
mark on the victim’s arm.
The bite-mark shows a missing front tooth.
Who wrote the note?
• A note was found on my desk written in black
ink.
• There are 4 suspects.
• How can I find who wrote the note?
