This document discusses why Linux and open source software. It introduces Linux user groups in Bandung, Indonesia and defines free and open source software as software that is liberally licensed to allow users to study, change and improve its design through access to its source code. It notes that open source software provides freedom and traces the history back to Richard Stallman and the GNU project which developed the GPL license.
