This document reviews the transition from traditional paper and pencil testing (PPT) to computer-based testing (CBT) in language assessment, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each method. It emphasizes the necessity of conducting comparability studies between PPT and CBT to ensure fairness and validity in language testing practices, as recent trends show increasing implementation of CBT driven by technological advancements. The text concludes by advocating for further research to establish equivalency of test scores across both modalities before widespread adoption of CBT.
