SACKETS HARBOR
Oct 19-27
Sackets Harbor Central School parents are organizing a haunted walk full of local ghost stories and lore
in mid- to late October to raise money for the district’s music department. The trail, which will lead from
the Sackets Harbor Battlefield along Main Street, will be modeled after one in Kingston, Ontario. The
music department is looking for actors to tell the ghost stories at different points of the walk.
The walk will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 19, 20, 26 and 27. A child-friendly trick-or-treat night has
been set from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25. “The stories will be a little watered down to not be so scary,” Mrs.
Elliott said about the children’s night. The stories will center on history and local paranormal sightings.
The battlefield stop will include tales of hauntings from a faceless soldier. Participants will follow cloaked
guides to each stop, where a storyteller dressed in black will tell a local ghost story about the place.
“There will be some surprises along the way,” Mrs. Elliott said. Concessions will be available, and Mrs.
Elliot said free child care will be provided. The walk will start at the red barn on the battlefield near the
parking lot. A campfire will be built there to attract participants. The cost to participate in the walk is $5 for
adults and $3 for students. To volunteer to be a storyteller, call Sackets Harbor Central School music
teacher Paul J. Buell at 646-3575.
