- 2. FUNCTION • The relation between a set of inputs and a set of permissible outputs • One input equals one output. • Condition : Every element of the first set should have an image in the second set. Every element of the first set can only have one image in the second set.
- 3. DOMAIN, CODOMAIN, RANGE • The set A in the given function is the domain of the function and B its codomain. • The image of the domain under f is called the range {5,6,8} of f . Set A={1,2,3} Set B={5,6,7,8}
- 4. ONE-ONE & ONTO • A function f is said to be one-to-one (injective) , if and only if whenever f(x) = f(y) , x = y . • A function f from a set A to a set B is said to be onto(surjective) , if and only if for every element y of B , there is an element x in A such that f (x) = y , that is, f is onto if and only if f (A) = B .

- 10. CONCLUSION Functional equations is an essential tool for describing the nature of the physical universe. Every physical object / quantity that can be put under a mathematical functional equation is predictable i.e. through function, its future position or behaviour can be calculated.
