Strategy levels • Compliant: A firm decides it will be in complaints with all environmental, health and safety regulations. • Engaged: a firm is not only in complaints but also it understands its environmental market opportunities and proactively uses that knowledge to create engagements with the value chain and other stakeholders to identify opportunities faster. • Market Driven: A firm responds not only to regulatory requirements, but also reacts to its customers environmental expectations by providing leading products/ service and operational performance. • Shaping the future: A firm develops product and services for current and future market conditions, addressing unmet social needs by proactively integrating economic growth.

Eg; Dr. Rajendra singh who won the magsaysay award in 2001 for exemplary efforts in community development and water conservation and mgt in the state of Rajastan. •Usage of Ground and Underground water by the Industry - causes huge droughts and contamination to a massive area by exploiting an excessive amount of ground water and then replacing it with toxic discharge. • 85% of rural drinking water and 55% of urban water comes from underground sources has caused the national water table to suddenly and very dramatically drop. • The rivers are slowly being polluted and destroyed by sewage, chemicals and other agricultural and industrial waste.

Eg; The Chipko Movement •almost 5.3 Million hectares of forest have been destroyed since the independence for housing, industrialisation and river projects. • Poor management and abuse of power are again the increasingly sad cause behind the mass deforestation- Poaching. • The invasion of foreign tree species such as Eucalyptus etc. •Eucalyptus is water intensive and nutrient intensive.
- 9. • Energy resource mgt can be defined as the process of monitoring, controlling and conserving energy in any setting. • India has a problem of inadequate energy. • Still there are villages electricity remains as a dream. • The country produces about 2.4 % of its energy needs and consumes about 3.4 %. • Example: Solar Home Lighting Programme for Rural India

- 14. • The Green Rating of Indian Industry project was started by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in 1996 to address an array of environmental issues facing all segments of Indian industries. • Green Rating of automobile sector was a great challenge owing to diversity between companies in their production processes as well as the products manufactured.
- 15. • Cars use Petrol and Diesel which are a mixture of Hydrocarbons and compounds usually contain Hydrogen and carbon items. • The government is taking and has taken steps to introduce catalytic converters in the country a few years back to reduce air pollution. • Companies like Tata Motors and Mahindra are fine tuning their Diesel engines for optimum performance and reduced emission. In the two-wheelers category the companies like Hero Honda is providing pollution free vehicles.
- 16. • Government has to take a proactive role to reduce the pollution levels in the country and should try phasing out old vehicles and impose heavy fines on cars and heavy vehicles today • It should provide tax benefits to electric cars like Reva as they don't pollute the environment and take very little space on the already congested Indian roads at pollute the environment. • today in India several new trends are emerging to tackle the problem of pollution like people are opting for car pools while a small number are cycling their way to work.
- 17. • Developed advanced environmental technology & save costs through lower fuel consumption and make a clear statement towards environmental protection. • aim is not only to reduce emissions from vehicles, but want to make the entire life-cycle of a car more environmentally friendly.
