FUTURE TENSE
Tiempo Futuro
FUTURE TENSE
 The future tense, believe it or not, describes events in
the future.
 The future tense is formed in -ar, -er, and -ir verbs by
adding the following endings to the infinitive form of the
verb:
 -é, -ás, -á, -emos, -án
 Tomar – to take
 Tomaré, tomarás, tomará, tomaremos, tomarán
 Comer – to eat
 Comeré, comerás, comerá, comemos, comerán
 Escribir – to write
 Escribiré, escribirás, escribirá, escribiremos, escribirán
FUTURE TENSE
 4 groups of irregulars in the future:
 Drop the –e/–i and add –d:
Poner – to put/place
Salir – to leave
Tener – to have
Valer – to have worth
Venir – to come
Example:
Tener – tendré, tendrás, tendrá, tendremos, tendrán
FUTURE TENSE
 Drop the –e
Caber – to fit
Haber – to have (auxiliary)
Poder – to be able
Querer – to want
Saber – to know (facts/information)
Example:
Poder - podré, podrás, podrá, podremos, podrán
FUTURE TENSE
 Drop the –ec
Decir – to say/tell
diré, dirás, dirá, diremos, dirán
 Drop the –ce
Hacer – to do/make
haré, harás, hará, haremos, harán

 Attempt Activity B on page 423
 The instructions say to complete the sentences with the
correct form of the verb in the future.
1. Tendrán
2. Viajaremos
3. Podré
4. trabajarás
5. Darán, harán

CONDITIONAL TENSE
 The conditional tense is used to express what
would happen.
 It is formed in -ar, -er, and -ir verbs by adding the
following endings to the infinitive form of the verb:
 -ía, -ías, -ía, -íamos, -ían
 Hablar – to speak
 Hablaría, hablarías, hablaría, hablaríamos,
hablarían
CONDITIONAL TENSE
 Comer – to eat
 Comería, comerías, comería, comeríamos,
comerían
 Ir – to go
 iría, irías, iría, iríamos, irían
CONDITIONAL TENSE
 Irregulars are the same as future and conjugated
the same as well with the conditional endings
added.
 Tener – tendría, tendrías, tendría, tendríamos,
tendrían
 Hacer – haría, harías, haría, haríamos, harían
 Poder – podría, podrías, podría, podríamos,
podrían
 Decir – diría, dirías, diría, diríamos, dirían
CONDITIONAL TENSE
 Attempt Activity A on page 484.
 Disregard the instructions in the book. Translate
each of these sentences that this person would do
if they had more time and money.
CONDITIONAL TENSE
1. I would have a laptop in each room of my house.
2. I would use a PDA to record all of my important
dates.
3. I would read a newspaper everyday.
4. I would buy a hybrid car.
5. I would always be up to date.
6. I would watch DVDs on a HD TV.
7. I would prepare and eat healthier food.
