QUARTER 1 WEEK 5
DAY 1
Directions: Read and solve the problem.
Have your solution on a piece of paper.
1) A number and 42 has a GCF of 6
and LCM of 210.
What is the number?
R E V I E W
How many times will you multiply the GCF
to get this number?
R E V I E W
Imagine that you have a Hawaiian
pizza with equal-sized pieces. Some of
the pizza has already been eaten, so
you have a fraction of the pizza
remaining. You could represent the
pizza pieces with the figure below.
Two are eaten, so the
remaining pizza can be
represented with the fraction,
what?
Addition and Subtraction
of Fractions
and Mixed Numbers
(M5NSIe-84)
NUMERATOR
DENOMINATOR
The numerator shows how many parts
you have. This numerator shows there is
one part.
The denominator shows how many
parts the whole is divided into. This
fraction shows it is divided into two parts.
Fractions can be combined through
addition or be deducted by subtracting
from another fraction. To properly add or
subtract fractions, first, we need to
determine what type of fractions we are
dealing with. There are 3 types of set of
fractions: similar fractions, dissimilar
fractions, and mixed fractions.
Adding or subtracting similar
fractions is as easy as one, two, three.
Simply get the sum of the numerators
then copy the same denominator. If the
fractions are dissimilar, change the
fractions into similar fractions then
follow the same steps in adding
similar fractions.
