Gateshead Libraries compared CIPFA data for 2008-09 has just been released Gateshead performance compared across several key indicators Compared with national performance, a group of 15 statistical neighbours, regional and Tyne & Wear performance

Library users – a mapping exercise Library users have been mapped across the borough by neighbourhood Book users have been mapped Computer users have been mapped The lowest level of use was in Lobley Hill North – 16.2% of local people used the library in the previous year The highest level of use was in The Avenues 48.4% of local people used the library in the previous year
 
Library users – community reach National research shows that  “ non-whites are more likely to be library users than white adults. Library users also tend to be well educated, and to have children. Library use is relatively high for people under 16. Adult use is influenced by use as a child.”

Health Impact findings 48%  of respondents used the library to find out about health Of these:  98% better understanding of their condition / subject 35% -  ‘The information has a positive impact on my health’   57% of all users felt the library contributed positively to their health or well being
Gateshead Libraries: Impact Measures Wide range of activities evaluated across the library service and borough Evaluation framework used has been developed by MLA for use across libraries, museums and archives The evaluation provides evidence to demonstrate: Generic Learning Outcomes Genseric Social Outcomes
