Girls in Engineering, Math and Science GEMS Squad Pitt Bradford
Research indicates that the current Science, Engineering, and Technology workforce is made up of only 19% women. Although girls are just as capable as boys in all levels of math and science, girls seem to be losing interest during their middle school years. This loss of potential scientists and technologists impacts our society as well as our families.
We are planning for the initial kickoff GEMS Day to be Saturday, April 4, 2009. The GEMS Day will consist of three 2-hour long sessions with a lunch break between session 1 and 2. We are anticipating accepting 48 girls and having 4 workshops available for each session. GEMS will offer a variety of hands-on workshops, with college professors, that will revolve around the science, technology, math, and engineering disciplines.
